D'Addario Chromes opinions

I just picked up a Squier Jag, and want to try flats on it. Any opinions on the Chromes? I have them on my P-bass and like the sound and feel, but I realize they have more high end than traditional flatwounds. Would I be better off spending the extra $5 on DRs or something else? I'd rather not spend $40 for two sets (always need a backup set) of Pyramids on a test run.

I'm also toying with the idea of the $3 GFS flats, since I'm looking at buying some miscellaneous parts anyway. If I wind up buying the parts elsewhere though, I'll probably pass.
