I may spend my end of the year scheckels on a guitar. I've had my eye on the Marr Jaguar. I know there is that long thread from months back about it, but it is 90% speculation and commentary, a few pics and nearly zero information based upon first-hand experience.

My question is specific: have you played the Marr Jaguar? If you did, what was the neck like? How different in terms of thickness is it from the 62 AVRI neck? I have a 62 AVRI JM; that's my preferred neck thickness. I could get along with a slightly thicker neck but I do not like baseball bat necks (e.g.: the 2012 American Standard Strat necks, which I find barbarously too thick).

It feels very similar to my 2002 CIJ Jag neck. Very average in terms of thickness etc. Very little to upset.

I've not played an AVRI Jag / Jazz neck for a long time but from memory that is slightly boulder/thicker than a CIJ Jag.

Thanks. My AVRI JM is a 2008. It seems to have a pretty skinnyish neck. I posted in OSG as well; I think my wife may be about to order one which why I have a sense of urgency!

I work in a shop that sells them, and the majority of the comments are from those saying how much they like the neck...

I can't see how you could dislike it, but some folk do get uptight about neck shape. It's not something I dwell to much on.

Some customers think they want thick or thin, but it usually it comes down to the shape mainly.

You can have a thick neck that is comfortable, and thin neck that is comfortable for one set of hands I find.

The neck shape on the Marr is just average / normal to me. Perhaps because it does feel like my CIJ Jag.

I've played other CIJ Jags that feel more different.

Nabbed from Harmony Central, but here's one against an AVRI Jazzmaster (on the left). Looks pretty chunky to me.

that is a significant difference. I wish I could try it out.

Hmm. Among those the only thing I've played is the CP JM, and the Blacktop JM. If you have a 2012 American Standard Strat, I'd be interested in how that compares too...

My shop's had 2 '66 Classic Jaguars (one I bought, and one just like it), one Blacktop Jaguar, one Mustang ('round 2004), a Blacktop Jazzmaster, an Elvis Costello Jazzmaster (around '08-'09), and a Classic Player Jaguar HH and Jazzmaster. That covers all of the offsets/shortscales my local stores have had in since I started looking around 1994.

Nearest GC to me only ever had a Blacktop JM (with all of the saddles falling off/ not even intonated), two Blacktop Jags, teh KURDTZSTANG in lefty and eventually righty, teh KURDTZ Jag, and two old style VM Jaguars. All at separate times though.

I played the Marr in a shop recently, I found the neck thicker than I am accustomed to, and I didn't care for that aspect, in the brief time I was checking it out.
My personal guitars are a 65 Fender Musicmaster II and a CP Jaguar.

In the video, Johnny spends a fair amount of time discussing the neck specs. He modeled it after a particular 1965 Jaguar neck he has. He describes as chunkier than a standard Jaguar neck and adding to the sound.

Feature wise, Johnny's Jaguar is awesome and I want to try one out myself.

A friend of mine tried the Marr Jag at GC San Francisco. He said he loved the neck and felt it was more comfortable (read: thinner?) than other Jag necks he'd tried before.

I will say I've found that there's a big difference between AVRI Jag and JM necks. Jag necks always feel thicker to me (may just be shape, as Owen has said). Kinda like comparing apples and oranges. This has kept me away from Jags for the most part.

Apparently right is JM and left is AVRI

hmm maybe it's a fret difference? All the avri's i have played weren't very friendly.
