is this thing as good as it seems? I have a gift card and I am thinking about getting a better apartment amp--
is there a better small valve amp?

I think anything tube above 5 watts is a "small gigging amp." The 5 watt range is great because as long as you have a gain knob, they're usually just loud enough to play with a sane drummer, and just enough to really get your neighbors annoyed, but you can usually back them up and get decent sounds at low volume.
My Vox Pathfinder 15R and AC4C1s are wonderful apartment amps, though my Pathfinder's made it to more gigs than most of my "giggable" amps.

Yeah so cheap and feature packed.
I'd say with tube amps you're never going to get them to cook enough to make them worth using in an apartment anyway

I live in a terraced house and its the same deal. Place late at night a modeller is useful if you don't live in a mansion.

Got my self the AC4C1 over the AC4TV head & cab on your advice and I'm absolutely loving it. I was going to pm you to say thanks but as it has come up in conversation I'll say it here. Thanks.

Out of the few very low wattage amps I've played, the AC4TV is the best sounding one below $300.
Nobody's got shit on Vox, in the low watt game below $300.

My brief experience with George's amp was 100% positive and even though I have 5watt tube amp I think he's correct for low volume playing at a very attractive price. That being said I suspect a decent EQ and reverb in the effects loop would allow me to tweak an awesome sound for low volume out of mine....but that's a lot of extra cash for apartment noodling!

It is the racing green I've got, extremely handsome. Yes it has an external speaker output, 16ohms I think.

I really didnt like mine. I put a switch on it to remove the tone section and that was an improvement. I sold the head and put a Celestion Truvox in it. I run that and an Ampeg micro head. It is the best rig i've ever used as a "stompbox guy".

The demos I've heard sound kinda harsh, but it would have been a good project, the guy had swapped the speaker with something better, can't remember what.
