So I did some trades and ended up with this! There's some slight buzzing on a couple of frets that I can't seem to iron out (the 1st and 2nd of the G strings to be precise) but my God THE NECK. So comfy. Really super light too. Sounds fantastic- punchy but fuzzes up really, really well! The bridge pickup is actually just a dummy- the scratchplate was routed for 2 pickups so rather than leave it empty I chucked an old japanese single coil in but removed the polepieces.

I'm considering getting it refinished in black and getting a new scratchplate cut (I have no desire to use a bridge pickup). But the trashy look of it is growing on me!

Congrats. I'm a fan of the natural/rw look, but I bet it would look great refinished in black, too.

Upto you to refin or not..go with what the tingle in yer balls tells ya...

i'd go for a body refin, probably something pastel with a mint guard, but all black would look decent.

That's nice. It's pretty much the same colour as the first one I had. Mine had turned snot green under the guard where the finish had reacted with the plastic. Probably the guitar I regret selling the most. I'd keep it mussed up like it is. Dave knows best.

Keep the natural finish. It's got character.

On one of my Teles, I had a buzz that turned out to be the specific note, causing a sympathetic vibration in the pickup cover. So it may not be the fret - see if the 6th / 7th fret notes on the D string cause the same buzz.
Alternatively, it may be that the nut slot for the G is slightly too deep. You can fret between the second and third fret and look for clearance over the first.
The first step for string buzzes and intonation problems is ALWAYS to change the string. Dud strings are quite common and create weird problems.

yeah, the nut slot might need filled and recut. it happens on my jag and i haven't come across a fix that lasts more than six months. araldite mixed with talc is ok, white milliput seems pretty good too, but none are permanent.

I don't see how that's going to help a buzz when fretted? I'd guess a fret dress is in order, that's what it took to cure a similar problem due to wear on my '73 Strat.
