NGD: TEISCO ET-312

Post by cobascis »

This thing looks so cool. My girlfriend says it's ugly but what does she know? Traded a few pedals for it (Memory Boy, Mooer Pitch Shift, and Danelectro Daddy-O). I think I got a good deal. He mentioned he had an old teisco and I was praying it wasn't one of the shittier ones but I had no hopes that it would be this one, which IMO, is the coolest guitar they made, and in the best color.

Unless I can somehow nurse the tuners back to life I think I'll be replacing them. Nearly impossible to turn / falls out of tune quickly. Anyone know where I can get replacements that will fit? Also It is missing the spring and trem arm, not sure where to find those either. May have found a trem arm on ebay.

That is beautiful - one of my dream guitars. I don't want to do that vulgar 'dibs' thing, but if you ever decide to sell it, I'd love to buy it.

Try and work some grease into those tuners - they may well come back good as new. If not, keep any of the bits you take off.

Do you think using WD-40 would work? I loosened the screws (they're open backed) and it certainly helped a bit. I'll try some grease next. I like how the cracked plastic bushings look on the headstock. I just shimmed the neck -- there was already a metal shim in there but I put some cardstock in over and it is infinitely more playable. Crazy low action now. This thing is sweet, the tone pot seems to be wired backwards, 0 is the brightest and 10 is the dullest.

WD40 might free them up, but you'll want to grease them afterwards.

Tuners pretty much completely sorted with vaseline. I've been adjusting pickup heights -- this thing sounds great. The Rhythm/Solo switch is like the strangle switch on the Jaguar. The tone knob has a really subtle range, it's all usable.

Only problems I'm having are with the neck. It almost frets out/buzzes at the 5th fret on the low e and the 7th on the high e. The action is medium low, and I have been adjusting the truss rod to get rid of some neck bow. However, if it is fretting out only at the 5th wouldn't this suggest it needs more neck bow? I did the capo on fret 1 finger on the last fret trick and there is a gap about the width of an A or low E string, on all my other guitars I have gotten it much smaller.

AMAZING. That is right up my street.

Re fret buzz, sounds like some high or low frets. Check YouTube out for vids on how to correct. It's not hard. A flat bit of metal to rock on the frets to find the one that is high and some sand paper to gradually take it down.

Sorted the fretting out issues... not the pretties fret work I only had one flat file but it worked. Could crown it very well. Functional fix. This thing is up and rolling. I have a gig on friday and I think this will be the guitar to take. Microphonic as fuck, of course, but sounds sooo so good.

The input jack is working but you can push the cable all the way in. Stops a few mm out and if you move it around crackles. May replace it.

Fantastic looking guitar. Really nice and it's cool that you've sorted out the issues so quickly too.

The amazing bit is that those switches still work. Great guitar!

I might be wrong but I think those guitars typically sell for a lot of money, like $800+

Great score.

I had thought that too, and apparently they have sold for 1000$ on ebay before, but the most recent one in this color I could find (missing name badge) sold for $295. Seems like a very fluxuating market. A sunburst one sold for 150$ too.

Awesome deal! Kinda jealous, I'd really like one of these. I've got an old Teisco MJ-2L, which I believe was refinished from sunburst to be blue like yours.

That thing looks sweet, I've got the four pickup model, but it's in nasty Granny Smith apple-burst. Always wanted metallic blue.
