Revol guitar sound
Anyone know what effect or effects the guitars in Revol by Manic Street Preachers uses? Chorus, flanger, tremolo, all 3 or something else? I love the wobbliness of the guitars in this song, it a sound that can be heard on alot of the songs on this record.
I read somewhere that JDB used a tiny Zoom multi fx for the effects on the album. It's all chorus, phaser and weird tremolo effects.
He used a Boss BF-2 for the live shows. I could get those sounds easily on my Boss BF-2 with all the dials set at 12.
Revol is also in open G tuning.

Thanks. I knew he had a BF2 on his board, also a Super Chorus but wasn't sure which one gave this effect. I have an HF2 and CE5 but neither seem to do it. A mate is going to lend me his BF2 so i'll see how close I can recreate it. It not just the sound on this song I like, similar wobbly sounds can be heard all over the record, there also some obvious sweeping flanged sounds so I assumed his BF2 was being used.

Looks like it may well be the Zoom 9002: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/history/02.php..and I think all of the effects on the whole album came from a ‘Zoom’ micro-pocket guitar processor, which is like a tiny guitar processor that fits on a guitar strap. I’m not sure exactly if that’s the effect that you’re talking about, but I know there were a few vocals that we also processed through this guitar processor, which was basically all or nothing, regarding the depth of the effect. So that might have been like a chorus effect from a ‘Zoom’ effects processor.
Agreed, they also did a "Special Edition" version of the 9002 (can't find release date, only this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 0829136128) and a Pro version (released in July 1994). Since the album came out in August '94, I doubt they used the Pro version. The original 9002 came out in Fall of '89 per your article.Doog wrote:Looks like it may well be the Zoom 9002: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/history/02.php
Additionally they did an "Artist Edition" version of the Pro, which would have to be at least July 1994 as well (http://www.randycuffe.com/9002.html).

The bibe is their best (and should have been their last as everything after that was like what the foo fighters are to nirvana, or wings to the Beatles), but I'm a big fan of their first 3 albums, 'generation terrorist' had 'you love us' one of my all time favorite songs (and the reason I started playing the guitar). 'gold against the soul' had some class tunes:
"From Despair to Where" Â
"La Tristesse Durera (Scream to a Sigh)" Â
"Life Becoming a Landslide" Â
"Roses in the Hospital" Â

My favourite band of all time; seen them live 38 times since 1996.

Nope BF-2. If you look hard enough you'll see it in this video. I think he's using a wah aswell but I'm not sure.johnnyseven wrote:Looks like it was a Boss CH1 that he would have used live for these sounds, maybe i'll seek out an old analog version.
