NGD for someone else thanks to GC's incompetence - '67 SG MM

My old man got me a guitar center gift card last month for my birthday, and I planned on using it when I went to San Diego, but I didn't find anything I wanted in the stores there, and nothing that I wanted could be shipped in time for me to get it there.

So, I've been searching GC's website. Looking for Jagmasters (hoping I get another Vista Jagmaster for the price of a used standard), and just partscasters and modified guitars. Today, this popped up, and it was too cool to pass up. It's in Colorado, a 67 Melody Maker, modded in the 80's with a Badass bridge and a pair of Dimarzio strat pickups, stripped to natural and clear'd.

They just finished processing the order, it should ship later today :D YAY! I got a Gibson

Ooooh, that's some delicious wood-on-wood-on-wood action! Really like the look of that headstock too. Bet it sounds mint, enjoy!

There was indeed. I'd buy another one to put on there, but the prices scared me away. I've been doing some research, and it might not have been a refin. Since the damage was done in the 80's, I should just be thankful no one thought of putting a Floyd or a Schaller trem on it.

Yep. I was also looking at original pickups and a pickguard... but the prices have scared me a bit. I'm actually a bit curious if this was the original color - salesguy said it was a refin - but they offered a natural Walnut finish in 68, and my guitar's a 67. If it's a late 67, it could be the original finish.

Once I get the guitar in my hands, take it apart, and hear it, I'll decide what (if anything) needs to be done. The GC Salesman was pretty honest about it needing a fret dressing, so I'll at least take her to my tech once she's here and acclimated to the humidity and heat down here (the guitar's coming from Colorado) for a good setup and fret dressing. I'm also looking at getting a black or parchment guard cut.

Nice guitar. Always wanted one of those SG melody makers with the single coils, ever since Weezer's Blue.

So, there was a bit of a fuckup with the sales tax, and they had to call me yesterday to cancel and reprocess the order. That delayed it over the weekend, so if I'm lucky, it'll ship out Monday. What does concern me though is that my card hasn't been touched, on either transaction - I wasn't charged on the first attempt, nor was I charged on this second attempt. I guess I should expect a call on Monday from GC.

Fuck dude, I would put solid pickup covers on that thing and change nothing else. That shit is unique.

So, update. I called GC last night because I haven't received a tracking number yet, and they've been good about it before IME. Their website doesn't show the guitar in their inventory anymore, so it's definitely been sold.

Well, the salesman went to the back of the store to double check, and he said "yeah, the guitar shipped". So it looks like they forgot to give me the tracking number.

I'm a bit concerned though because they still haven't charged me for the guitar.

Aaaaaaand repeat after me.

FUCK GUITAR CENTER

FUCK GUITAR CENTER

I called to get my tracking number, and they gave it to me. So when I checked and it shows a destination of Illinois, I WTF'd. They could have at least called me to tell me.. "hey, we fucked up".

Long story short, even though I was the first one to order it, they still sold it to someone else.

Fuckers.

I understand, but if they sold it to someone else why would they give you a tracking number? Why is there a tracking number attached to your order? That information shouldn't be available to you if they sold the guitar to somebody else, right? Is it possible they sold you the guitar and just shipped it to the wrong address?
