NGD: Mustang Pawn Shop Bass-Sound clips added
Just got dropped off about an hour ago. The finish is great and the neck feels awesome. The out of box set up is god fucking awful. The action is fucked, the intonation is about as far off as it can be, the string winding on the tuning pegs were about 1/8th of an inch apart. Pretty much unplayable. I'm going to put my kid down for a nap in a few and take it apart to make sure everything is clean in the neck pocket, restring and give it a proper set up. I'll make sure to take lots of pics and such.

The pickup is really thick sounding. I wouldn't use the word muddy though. Pretty loud. It def doesn't sound anything like a P or J bass. I plugged it into my toneport and used the same settings i do for my P/J basses and it sounded muffled. Then switched settings to the ones i use for my active basses and it sounded honky/wonky. Now that i've some time tonight i can make a setting for it. My ampeg rig is at the jam space so i havent had a chance to run it thru a real amp yet but i think it is going to do just fine.

The pup is loud as fuck. I'm a little concerned because i remember my MIM P Bass would make a clipping/popping noise when i played it with a pick on the low E. I swapped the stock pup for a GFS Pro P and it stopped happening. This pup has the same exact issue. If i put it into the padded input it goes away. But what the fuck? None of my active basses need to use the padded input and this one is passive and it's almost like it needs it? It plays incredibly nice though otherwise. I'm stuck using head phones for the time being so i cant really get a good measure of the tone. I forgot that i've a head and cab in my car from the gig i played last friday still. I'm gonna bust it out tomorrow and see what the dilly is if it does it on the amp.

The neck is glossy.robert(original) wrote:im not sure how i feel about the pickup..... is the neck satin?
The pick up is too loud. It sounds great on every other string but on the low E is clips. I tried rolling back the volume a bit and it still happens until i turn the volume knob down about half way, then they whole thing just lacks balls all together. I lowered the pup as low as i could get it to go and it still happens. I've the gain knob on my head set to about 1.5 and the thing just lights up like a mother fucker. Like i said in a previous post, my P bass did the same thing with the stock (mexican) pickups and replacing it fixed it and now it sounds perfect. Problem is i've no idea where to get a replacement for this...
