Found this on the bay. It looks like a DeArmond m77. Did Squier and DeArmond make the same guitar? Anyway.... I like it.

Yeah those Squiers and Dearmonds are the same thing. I think Fender may have started branding them as Squiers after the run of Dearmonds or something.

early 2000's when squier had the chambered 3x3 stuff. and lp copies n what not, kinda cool stuff and in reality, fucking great for the price. they were all still under 300 brand new.

These came up in the Squier Mascis thread. Someone (jcyphe?) told me there were cheaper chinese (vs Korean) versions of the DeArmonds which are what he reckons all the Squier branded ones are.

Same thing happened to other DeArmond models:

yeah, they had quite a few dearmond models, like that wonky sg etc... early 2000's when mars music was still around. about the time fender put out the TORONADO

Fender purchased DeArmond in 1997, but the line was not a success. In 2001, the DeArmond line was shifted to the Squier brand, then reduced from fifteen models down to seven in 2002.
