On my last acoustic guitar pickup thread I mentioned that one of my guitars was very unbalanced sounding, so I switched the pickup out for a pickup I had great success with.

The guitar is doing.... the same exact thing!

The bottom two strings are very loud and the rest of the strings are about half as loud, until I make my way up the fretboard, at about the tenth fret they start to make about as much volume as the bottom two strings.

I tried a swapping my paper shims from above the pickup to below the pickup. still no dice.

It doesn't appear that the pickup is offset to one side or the other of the strings.... I resanded the bottom of the bridge saddle to make sure it is flat and it doesn't look that the saddle hole has been routed in anyway.

DAFUQ?????? I wanted to use this shit on my gig tonight.

I think it might be your strings.

It is an under-saddle pickup you have right ?

A guy who works for Gibson (laughingly) told us to give the saddle a substantial tap with something weighty to fix this problem... obviously not enough to cause damage.... but swore it worked. He did it to one of ours in the shop... the guitar got stolen the very next day so didn't get a chance to try it.

I would make sure the the saddle slot is clean of any minute bits of dirt / dust etc. And I'm also not sure a paper shim is a good idea wherever you place it. Getting a new bridge cut would be best...

I shimmed the bridge of one of my guitars once and it caused this problem.

That was my next plan, thing is, the last pickup that was under the saddle was a bit taller, so I had no need for any shimming, and it did this same exact thing. I'll let you guys know after I sand down a new buuuuuuuuuurdge
