Open mic night supplied gear help

So, the band are looking for gigs and we've come across the greyhound pub in beeston, notts. in order for them to book you to play, they ask bands to turn up to their open mic afternoon on a Sunday and get up and do a few numbers.

Backline is supplied, which is either a line 6 combo or marshal mg series. I would take my orange but from what I've heard, if you bring your own amp, expect other people to want to use it. I'm a bit funny about leaving my amp onstage for any stranger off the street to come in, plug in and play.

I have no dirt pedals anymore, so what should I do?

Buy a cheap joyo OCD clone and set the amp up clean? Set it crunchy and use my saltboost for lead?

Not sure now the line 6 would respond to being cleaned up by my guitar volume like I do with my orange.

The Old Bell in Derby used to do this (i think its closed now). When i was in Master Charger they wanted us to do an open mic to secure a booking, we didn't bother, people in the band worked shifts, had to arrange childcare and one lived in Leicester. Just seemed like a load of hassle to get booked at a half decent venue for no pay.

Anyway, the dirt channel on the MG Marshalls isn't bad at all Rob, i use one at home sometimes. It will clean up with your guitar volume, not valve tonez but you'll get by. The Line 6 combo's sound good as well.

This is why it's worth always having a dirt pedal you like lying around, I think. Something like the Behringer Tube Monster, which is basically an amp. Or one of those Harley Benton jobbers.

don't waste your time. book shows with other bands at places that will actually pay you. the best thing you can do in a band is befriend other bands and work together. do it. tour. live it up.
