People tend to part them out for the necks - they used old-stock tele necks, so it's a cheap way for tele purists to get a vintage tele neck.

I used to have one and very much was not in love with it.

There was one on Ebay a little while ago, looked exactly the same as this but with a black pickguard. It was the absolute TITS. If only I didn't already have far too many guitars...

That's about, if not a little more than what I bought an '82 one from Stewart a few years ago.

That is an '81 series-one modified guitar. All series one's came with two pickups, so this has a non-original third middle pickup and probably has a non-original 5 way switch. It has a steel pick guard that doubles as the bridge. '81 was the only year of the Tele body. '82 versions had the Stratocaster bodies. But you can also find '81's with Strat style bodies, but all '81's (except deluxe models which were string through bodies) had the steel pick guard doubling as the bridge.
I bought my '81 and '82 for $350 each. The parting out of these guitars has really slowed down as the values have started to creep up some, and the parting out has helped the values of unmolested examples. My '82 has the highly sought-after red bobbin pickups- which are worth about $150 per pickup these days. With patience, I could get $500 for it on the high end- same with the S1.

Anyway- my opinion is that guitar is worth about $200 due to the mods.
