NGD Squier supersonic

Post by hendrix1234 »

Picked this up recently, always wanted one of these and one came up locally so i had to have it.
The necks on these are great, pickups are not original has a super distortion in the bridge and an old humbucker in the neck with only one coil working so i put a vantage mmk45 in the neck which sounds great.
Had a single in the middle which ive taken out and put into another guitar, also has a 5 way switch added.

Im going to try my hand at making a new guard for it, im still deciding if im going to make it the standard h/h or go with single neck, humbucker bridge.
The serial number also starts with A but im pretty sure the neck date said dec 96' and its crafted in japan?

Congrats! If you don't mind how much did it set you back?

Cheers, cost me around $400AUD not a super cheap price as its had some mods but i dont think its too bad.
Also i haven't seen many in Australia especially in black.

It is very similar quality wise to my jagstangs ones a 97 the other a 96' but im guessing thats because their made around the same time and same factory?

just have to sort out a new guard for it now

I have this exact guitar in the same color on the way to me as we speak. I might also swap out the pickguard on mine.

Nice find. I have never seen one with a single pup between the humbuckers.

I have six of these. Three V serial numbers and three As. The As are all 1997 (neck stamp) from my samples. Two of my Vs are 1996, and one is Jan 1997.
Of the Vs, the "Made in Japan" one is Nov. 96, and then the "Crafted in Japan" ones are Dec 96 and the aforementioned Jan. of 97.
The As are all "Crafted in Japan", and are stamped May, May, and June of 1997.

I wouldnt really use the middle pickup, although the one that was in there sounded pretty nice
Im not sure what to do as i generally like single coils in neck position but if i put humbucker in there i can use the holes already in the control
plate to split the neck humbucker.
What i might go with is a humbucker size p90 in neck and leave the super distortion in
bridge, thats pretty much what im after.

Wadeaminute i have seen your supersonics and they look great,do u make the
guards yourself or get them custom made?

I make my own guards, for the most part. I had two made by a member (Joey) here after he borrowed one of my original guards for a template. I asked him to only do the outline so that I could configure them any way I wanted to. I only use those two on one of my guitars (the black one, above, also has a tort guard). It isn't that hard if you have patience and a Dremmel tool. Messy, though.
I suggest P-Rails pickups with Triple Shot switching. 24 tones from two pickups. Allows you to have, for each pickup, a P90, a strat-ty single coil, series humbucker and parallel humbucker for each pickup, and then combinations of each.
My coral one just has a stacked tele pickup in the bridge position, but I have eight tonal options thanks to a push-pull on the tone control to split the HB to SC, and a four way switch that gives me a muddy neck position tone, cocked wah, volume and tone, and straight through to the jack options.

I just wanna say that single-ply black guard looks fantastic.

Actually, three of the six have single-ply black pickguards now:

The next project may be a single-ply black pickguard on a Fiesta Red VM Jaguar HH.

Ok cool i might give it a go using the old one as a template, i like where you moved the pickup selector on the last picture as its out of the way.
the 5 way that's in there actually doesn't really get in the way but only having 2 humbuckers i dont really need it.

Im definelty going to go with the single ply black, it looks good.
