Homemade neck brace

Too tight to buy myself a neck brace so I made one using a zip bag filled with rice, some parcel tape and an old sock.
This is what I was initially looking at, but for £35 I'll pass thanks...
Instead I thought about cutting a 'v' in a block of wood and coating it with foam... but I needed something more immediate... and the sock things works alright it seems. OLD SCHOOL DIY !!!

Can you detail a bit more how that's all put together? You took a ziplock and filled with rice, then shaped it with tape, the put a sock around it?

Yeah, you got it !! Just like a slightly toughened bean bag.
The shaping ... just pinching bits here and there and taping it up. There is still some give in it which also important.... it's not solid as a rock... so I wouldn't fill the bag to 100% capacity with rice. Before the sock went on it looked like a bag of drugs lol. I used a thin sock that was on it's way out and just managed to get a knot in there... and snipped the remainder off.
Suggestions:
- Tights instead of socks ? ... once the rice is in there you could twist and reverse it back on it's self... and keep going to you run out of material, it'll probably grip it all nice and snug and may not even need to tie it up... therefore you wont have a large knot. Or even if you do it'll be tons smaller...
...................or you be more proactive and get out the needle and thread out and use whatever material you wish..
- Perhaps inside the bag you could add a base plate of some kind (rectangular bits of card) but I've not noticed any issues with it falling over on its side, and it is quite nice the fact it is all slightly malleable, as a thing.
It only take about 15 mins... Piss easy !! ... really helps, especially with some pegwinder action !!!

Cool, I'll try my hand at this next grocery trip (I've used all the rice I had sadly). I have been using various little boxes and whatnot to do this, it would be really nice to have something a bit more specialized for the task.

Awesome !! You could use anything from powder, nuts, beans and the like...
If you do go for the rice you could in fact just use a small bag of rice itself and tape that up but I thought it was a bit of a waste of food... and I had two or 3 packets half opened already. They are usually pretty solid though, so would prob need emptying some what.
Send us some pics...
