My new les Paul sounds great in the neck and mid position, but the replaced bridge pickup sounds lame. I am trying to find a nice low output (7-8k) replacement that will be a good match, but have no idea where to start. Sd sh-55? Bareknuckle? Lollar? Novak?

It's no secret I'm a huge Bare Knuckle fan, and whilst I usually stick to the hotter end of the output spectrum I will one day get a set of their more vintage pups to try out. Anyway, if you are looking for a classic PAF LP sound I don't believe it gets much better than the BKP Mule. A hotter Mule is the Abraxas. Tim the founder of Bare Knuckle once said that if he could only have one guitar for the rest of his life to cover everything he needed, it would be loaded with Mules.

I know a few people who really love the BKP P90s and I think Simon on here had one in his telecaster if I remember correctly.
Back to the humbucker, I fitted a set of Seymour Duncan 59s to a guitar and I really like them.

I have had, yeah. When I had P90s in my Jag it was a set of BKP92s and they were fantastic. I regret selling them now as they no longer offer them, they were overwound but still really clear, around 11k I think.
I have also got a Mississippi Queen in the neck of my Seth Baccus LP which is also really nice - am a big fan of P90 neck pups in LPs.

Sure do. Mississippi Queen in the neck. Sounds lovely and warm (very jazzy) but can also cope with lots of dirt. I love BK pickups. I've got The Boss single coil in the bridge too.

The Duncan JB is hands down my favorite bridge bucker. That's just me though.

The SD Pearly Gates is taking the humbucker world by storm at the moment I think. I think around 10k output though

^That's always been a solid choice. I'm really enjoying my SD Distortion Trembucker. It's not for everyone though.

Based on Billy Gibbons 59 LP pups, never gonna fail.
Glad to see they are popular again, been overlooked for a long time.
The stock Fender Toronado GT had a Pearly Gates, great sounding guitar. Dont ever recall Fender using them in another model.

The PAF Pro is cool, but very mid-heavy. It's also quite loud but works well in the bridge position for distorted parts.

Decided to try a bareknuckle mule, can't wait to try it out, everyone seems to rave about them from what I can see. Some friends used the guitar to record a demo for their band, hopefully clips soon.
