Short Scale friendly fuzz

Post by FredJr »

This is a sort of poll/opinion/info gathering post:

It's a given that the Jaguar has a lot of high end in the bridge pickup and that the neck pickup is pretty mellow & jazzy with the combination of the two (Janis!!!!!) is unique in it's sound.

Question - what overdrive/fuzz would work best for the bridge and combo position. I find the neck pretty forgiving of my Hardwire Overdrive so far. I would love a Mad Professor Golden Cello but anyway:

What fuzz works best for you guys and gals out there in short scale land?

I shall check this out immediately Stewart. Is that a Coronado I see in your avatar? I had a Coronado I that I traded towards my first Jaguar. I wish I'd kept both

I find my Jaguar to be compatible with ALL of my fuzzes in all of the switch configurations:
Sovtek Big Muff
Zvex Fuzz Factory
Guyatone TZ-2
Boss HM-2

Electric Audio White Atom + CIJ Mustang = fun.

It sounds like a Fuzz Face but is more tweakable and doesn't mind being connected after buffered bypass pedals. I recommend it.

Do you run the two fuzzes independently? I had a Big Muff way back in the 70s. It was pretty awesome - don't know much about the Rats? Has anyone used germanium based fuzzes with the Jaguar, like the Analogman Sunface or the Fulltone 69?

Low gain RAT (Gain: 9-11 o'clock, Filter: 1-3 'clock) into a medium/high gain Big Muff with the tone rolled back. The mid hump from the RAT pushing the mid-scooped Muff sounds great.

Yes, I'm getting lots of mileage out of the Magnetic Effects White Atom. It's a proper clever buffered Germanium fuzz. It's also surprisingly versatile in that it can do all the vintage sounds you'd expect along with more modern raspy and gated sounds.

ah, sounds useful ^. i stopped using germanium fuzzes because i couldn't get them to work with my setup. they sound shit after buffered pedals.
