Yes, those Chromes. I don't know about BearBoy, but I put on some 11-50 Chromes on my Jaguar and it sounds fantastic.

I am told that the D'Addario strings are much higher tension than the old school
nickel TIs or Pyramids and you may have to do a neck adjust.

Is there a material difference in the brands because I believe that is the only variable other than diameter to affect tension. Am I missing something else?

Couple gift cards? That sounds a little extreme. I use about one cardstock thickness.

Most strings have all kinds of different formulas and just a difference between the composition of nickel and steel and using nickel core instead of steel, stuff like that can influence the tension. The same string made of gold will be much heavier than the same thickness of nickel, so a string made of gold will be heavier and have greater tension to get to the same pitch. Also, a flatwound string will have greater tension because given the same thickness of string, a roundwound string is less dense than flatwounds.
From D'Addario:
http://www.daddario.com/DAstringtension ... d7763d35e5
T (Tension) = (Unit Weight x (2 x Length x Frequency)^2) / 386.4
Unit Weight is affected by both thickness and composition of the string.
