SerfX Abandoned Projects Thread

Hey guys, as most of you are aware I used to love fucking up guitars to suit whatever needs I had at that point in time for music, or just learning how to do things (I still can't cut a god damned pickguard and not have it look super sketch..)

Anyways, I've more then a few abandoned projects, not because I don't want to finish them, but because my health went to complete shit in 2009 and hasn't done anything but get worse since then..

I was going to try and search though and grab all the info about each proj. but I suspect that someone else will probably do that anyways..

I do however still want to finish all of these projects but i've come up against a few limitations

1: Time, despite being away form work, i've been getting onto a pretty good rehab shedule that just hasn't allowed me with the time to head down to my folks for a couple days a week to work on them

2: Money, despite trying to save money, and now having almost all the required parts to get things together, something always is after more of it.

3: Pain, I have far to much of it, and the shakes, preventing me from drawing a straight line, let alone actually cutting one

--

Things i can still do however are wiring, and hopefully painting, none of the projects are quite at a paint ready spot yet.. but I hope they will be soon.

So what I'm wondering is who can I barter and trade with to get soem of this stuff finished up?

----
Mig MK I = needs the neck pocket filled and re-routed, needs pick guard

Modified Cyclone = needs custom pick guard

--

I have two other projects that need to be routed for pickups/neck pockets etc.. But i don't currently have any photos of them online..

So next time I make it down to the folks I'll be takign some photos and probably grabbing the rest of them in case i can find a person/persons to barter with to have them routed..

I am making that Cyclone template in the morning before I ship out my Cyclone II to Punkacc. So I got you on that.

I'd take your other project but it might be a while before I can get to it. If you were local, you'd be more then welcome to use my shop any time.

The goal is to look something like this..

looks like something that cotter would have fun doing

sincere ? put a lipstick over neck and keep the 3x3 at bridge. Gfs lipstick and gfs 3x3 won´t be that expensive "if i am not wrong"
also switch would be nice a Toogle togher the volume (Volume - Toogle- 1/4 Plug )
that jazz thing looks something not matching the design but whatever taste is like butt everybody have his own.

me and lipstick pickups have never gotten along at all, i'm not 100% on the jazzmaster pickup in the neck, but I love how they sound, and I have an CP one sitting in my parts bin..
the bridge pickup is a 72 WRHB i grabbed off of ebay a few years ago..

one of the other projects i haven't posted yet is ther version MK II of this guitar.. i'm sure there is a build thread somewhere for it, but i can't be arsed to look it up, as i know it only has concept sketches in it, and not production photos.

I am however gonna have to sort out how to fix the neck pocket..

the concept bottom photo is missing the three way toggle and phase reverse switch in the lower right horn (a-la jazzmaster) I thought about a kurdtz/jaguar toggle or switches.. but i think just having it on the guard and not a plate will work better for me.

funny enough the mig mk i body is actually smaller then a mustang/duo body..

Image

prior to routing the body..
in retrospect i shoulda outsourced it then.. but hell I wanted to learn..

the body itself is pine.

yup, though that wasn't on purpose.. i wanted it a bit bigger, but ended up loosing more wood then i wanted to when i rounded over the edges, plus sanding, plus re-rounding the edges..
it was a good learning experience for me.

the pine was on the advice of Robert(original) as i wasn't sure what to get, so i called him up while i was in the parking lot of a home depot and we chatted abotu guitar body wood for half an hour.. I think that was when he was still over doing stuff with Aen..

So it's been sitting like this for a couple years now.

mad a day trip down to the folks today, grabbed all my "abandoned" projects, their respective necks, and i think i may have forgotten a small box of parts (trem's pickups that sort of thing) but aside from that i should now be able to do up some mockups etc..

i'll get some shots done up tonight/tomorrow morning, and then keep on moving.

so .. i picked up a cyclone guard from rob(og)

I was gonna use it to make a template and cut a mint guard for my project..
and stretch it a bit due to the modified bridge position (24" conversion neck, instead of a 24 3/4" scale neck)

but I kinda really dig how it looks even with the big blue gap..

Image

So I might just be wiring it up like this..
though i'll have to dig out a bit of the toggle area as I had previously blocked it in so that i could mount a jag plate..
but i like the 3-way..

Here's one I haven't shown ya before..

it's gonna be a v. long time till it gets finished though..

it's a rob(og) body (iirc) that I got form FinBoy like 2 years ago.. or 3?
1996 Neck.

DiMarzio Tex Mex & Super Distortion pups

prob gonna do a mustang trem in all honesty, just it turns out I put the one I had for this on the Squier Jag i sold to Aen..

so yeah..

i Say at least 2 yrs till this is gonna actually be routed and painted and ready to wire up..

Image

I will gladly ship the body down to anyone who can route it (standard Jag-Stang routes..) i'll toss in a $50 for the work, and cover the shipping back to me.. absolutely ZERO rush.. body still needs a bit of sanding and such as well, but that is something I can actually do..

I have a squier jag neck for you dude, doing car work this week, once that is wrapped I will ship some stuff up to you that will hopefully finish these projects off

Also that white/white duo is awesome

sweet brother.

yeah i love that white on white duo

it just sits in the guitar stand though, slowly aging..
i made a promise to myself when my nephew was born 4 years ago, that should he ever decide he wants to learn to play guitar, i'm giving it to him with my 1958 fonovox amp..
probably the best starter set a kid could ever ask for.. if the kid was to know what was being handed to him..

my only stipulation will be if that he ever decides that he doesn't want them for any reason what soever, ownership will default back to me.

--

also, mad love and thanks to Cooter who PM'd me about doing the routing for the Jag-Stang
so I'll be sending the body, pickguard, and some other random goodies down to him to make that happen.

I should mention that white/white duo i picked up form BassInTom (sp?) on here back in 2008 iirc..

and some of the tracks on Zero Cool's Talk-Action=Hippies 7" were recorded with it.

others were done with my much missed 65 stang.

i think KP did his guitar tracks with random Les Pauls.. and maybe a strat..

Great thread.

Maybe we should set up an abandoned project swap meet for everyone here that has projects on the sidelines.
I know I've got plenty.

Sometimes I get bored when I get near the finish line with a project. I guess it's because
I've spent so much time obsessing over an idea. When it starts to come together then
I think... yeah, that's cool but you know what kind of build would really be cool.
Then I start diggin' through parts...

I agree..

my thought process was that i didn't want to dig up old thread with pages and pages of discussion about a color or a pickup, but to get myself to get these finished, however I possibly can.

and really a site wide project swap or such might not be a bad idea, at least for those of us who've been around for years and have god knows how many projects hidden away from our wives and girlfriends, even ourselves for that matter..

like i just cleaned out my storage closet and came across that TMNT strat project that some wonderful UK'r sent me.. so.. now to strip the body and refinish it in green again, just not in house paint..

but things like this are good.
