Thinking of trying to swap my Classic 30, which I fitted with a vintage 30......

.... for Tiny Terror with some kind of cab... ideally a 2x12 if poss. Or upgrade later.

Any reasons why not ?

I want something that'll break up a bit at home, and this seems like a good all rounder.

Haha... I'm pretty settled on it. I feel a bit apprehensive because I've recorded everything with the C30... but I know I could get one back on the second hand market, as they go for next to nothing now. So swapping may be the best bet if I can find someone who is up for that via Gumtree possibly... or buying from work with a little discount is not out of the question.

In regards to the Orange... I guess questions are raised in terms of handling pedals well... ? or gigable volume ? (but not gigging at the mo) .... reliability ? etc etc....

My C30 has been spot on throughout the 5 years I've had it... but I do need to sell / swap something to fund a possibly exchange.

I guess a swap is pretty low risk but I don't want to regret anything especially not anythin' obvious that I've not thought about already.

I would take my guitar / pedals into work and try it all out fully too... whether I buy it from there or not.

apparently the oranges tend not to take pedals very well so i hear

i've played through a few and love the sound but you can't seem to work back for good cleans

Not at all good with fuzz/distortion/OD pedals, apart from a select few.

Owen, think of this as an intervention: I have a big laundry basket full of pedals, and they all sounded bobbins with my Tiny Terror. It's the perfect amp if you always play dirty and don't use pedals. Otherwise: avoid.

You should check out blackstar amps.

If you just want a small amp that will breakup at home volumes.. check out the
HT-1RH unit. 1 watt tube amp.

they also make a 5 watt model as well. (i have the combo version of this.) I like it because it's got good cleans and decent overdrive.

Here in the states they're fairly cheap and hard to find since they're not a well known name.

peavey's classic amps are some of the best all around amps ever. keep it!

I'm always on the lookout for Peavey amps. Do not sell that Peavey. Keep it.

I done the opposite a few years ago, I had a Tiny Terror and I sold it to fund a Classic 30. At home I have the C30 set up clean and use pedals for crunch, everything sounds good through it. Tweaking the pre and post gain controls can give a nice crunchy sound from the amp.

I once had an Orange amp. Pedals sounded rubbish through it, at first I thought it was the pedals so I sold them - I then realised it was the amp and I regretted selling the pedals. I sold the Orange and bought a Bassman, which takes pedals amazingly well and I still have it. If you have pedals that you like and sound good through your C30 do not buy an Orange.

Every dirt pedal I've ever owned has sounded good through my Tiny Terror. FUCK THA HATERZ.

And yeah, I'd say they are loud enough for gigging with, certainly if you're using a 2x12. I had no problems with volume using a 1x12, 2x12 or 1x15.

Maybe you should buy some affordable attenuator for your Classic to get overdriven tones at low volume. And if you need to play a gig you will always have a headroom of the 30 watt combo.
But maybe you just want a new amp

Thanks for the info guys... I do work in a guitar shop but get very little time to try out gear unfortunately, especially for myself & with my own stuff.

Always very tentative when it comes to my own purchases... and it's good to get a second / third opinion too.

Anyways, my C30 has just gone pop tonight and there's a brightly glowing, very hot valve in there. Out of action for now.

The first issue I've had since I bought it in 2007, but this could be the cause of my annoyances recently ...

With the New Klone especially... I've been getting some weird harmonic dissonance around the G-B strings, and now just after it's gone bang it's really bad on those strings for the short time I played it afterwards. Almost banjo like.

SO yeah, swap valves and go from there again... I know the Klons work the valves pretty hard too, but it's killed this one for now. haha

Spent a while with the Tiny Terror and Nightrain 15 today, & with the klon... still not totally convinced !!

Anyways, I swapped the valves in my amp this evening and it sounds better than ever... whooo
