Cheap NPD vox v845

So after butchering my other wah with bad soldering skills and not being able to get it working again I decided to leave it to fester in its carry case.

Though the past couple of weeks I've really been wanting to throw a bit of wah on some band stuff. I nipped into my local guitar shop to grab strings and picks and saw one of these

Tried it side by side with a standard crybaby and there wasn't that much difference, favouring the sweep of the vox. Apparently the bypass isn't great on these, but a little treble loss doesn't bother me much. Casing is lighter than the standard dunlops/vox wah and the parts are cheaper quality but it'll be more than fine for now. Got it for £30 as the feet and box were missing.

When I can pluck up the courage to ask a electrically minded scaler to fix my older wah (vox v847) and tweak it, this would still make a great spare.

I actually went for the 847 over the 845 in an A/B test, but the differences were minor - the 847 is a bit clearer-sounding at the bottom end. I prefer the Voxes I've tried over Dunlops, FWIW. Sadly, it didn't really go well enough with distortion for me so I traded it for a Morley, which surprisingly works better with the rest of my setup.

tl;dr: it really pays to try lots of different wahs if you want a keeper.

At that price you've paid here though, an 845 is a bargain!

My ideal wah would be a jerry Cantrell signature. Not that I'm a massive chains fan, just like the sound in demos.

I had the loan of a Morley power wah a few years ago, very nice but big pedal board really estate

one of the best wahs i've ever used was a Morley power wah fuzz, it fucking ruled. huge thing though.
