I found a MIJ Boss HM-2 for $65 on Craigslist, comes with original box and all. Is it worth it to get it at this price, or am I better off getting the Behringer knock off for cheaper? I figure getting the Boss would be better in the long run, considering the silly prices they go for these days. Especially for being a MIJ Boss pedal. I figure I could probably flip it and make a profit, especially since it seems to be in such good condition.

Never tried the behringer... However the HM-2 is my all time favorite dirt pedal - can do drive to distortion and can do a good fuzz impression with the right settings.

I'm offering him 60 (original price) + gas money to meet me at a halfway point and he's been pretty difficult about it. Apparently, he has absolutely zero free hours to meet. The mid point I'm asking for is closer to him that it is to me and is in a wide public area, and he's suggesting an intersection thats in a neighborhood, which I refuse to meet at for Craigslist sales. Either in front of a business or nothing.

This is why I hate Craigslist. It's impossible to find anyone reasonable in Southern California.

The Boss runs off something annoying like 12v too. Although you can clip a resistor inside to bring it back to 9v.

Yeah, but that problem goes away if it's put into a pedalboard using a daisy chain.

Not tried the Behringer but Have owned Boss HM-2's & they are great. Also worth noting there is NO difference in sound between the MIJ & Taiwanese or whatever, just get the cheapest.

I owned a MIJ and a MIT HM-2 at the same time. MIT had more bass and was all around better. I kept it, sold the MIJ. So there.

Gilmour used this for his second solo album and DSOT. so don't hesitate to swap it for behringer

When I bought a MIJ one about 5 years ago on ebay it cost me about £30. (I'm in England.) £30-£40 was about the going price rate. Mine was as new condition.

HM2's are easily obtainable and very affordfable second-hand; so, yes, I'd suggest getting the Boss instead of the Behringer equivalent.

Despite it's name, I found HM2 good for shoegazey type sounds. The two eq controls can get quiet diverse tones. Massive sustain too.

HM-2 fan club, running it at 9 volts instead of 12 gives you a different set of sounds from it. Which are also rather good.

Damn it, now I want an HM-2.

That tuner in the upper right hand corner was the first tuner I ever had. Bought it at Whittaker in the good ol' LBC (which I doubt still exists (the store, not the city, I'm pretty sure the city is still there)).

I have had many a HM-2, and I can attest to there being absolutely no difference sonically between the MIJ and MIT. Any difference can be attributed to component drift. As for the Behringer clone, I have heard bad things about the opamps they use for their distortion pedals, hissy bad soundingn ones.
