Hi,

I'm new here,so please have some patience:)
I recently purchased my first Fender Jaguar (CIJ from 2004) and switched to a mustang bridge today. While intonating i realised that you can rock the bridge towards the neck or towards the tremolo. In what position should it be by default? (this makes a big difference in intonation)

It should be center!

It's designed to rock back and forth with the trem use. Some people don't like this and they wrap the bridge legs in copper tape so that the bridge does not move at all.

if you have a trem arm just waggle it back and forth to its full range and it will seat itself properly. then fine tune from there

i used to keep my jagstang bridge seated towards the cigar tube, it was when i had the trem locked, i had trouble getting good intonation with the gauge of string i used at the time and the only way to achieve pitch was to force it back, but, its supposed to be in the center, if its a jag, jazz, stang, whatever. its supposed to move with the use of the trem, its really a genius idea of keeping intonation while using the trem, but in reality it was completely useless.

And it's fairly close to impossible to keep it centered if you use the trem. I always just push it back towards the tail when I intonate so that I know it'll always be in the right place after I use the bar.

leo had some really fantastic ideas and i would say that 90 percent of the time the execution was perfect, but other times he fell short, like the mute on the jaguar, good idea. but it knocks the pitch up,rendering it useless. the on the jag/jazz trem could have been done better, of course the rocking bridge, like i said. good idea, but, WHY?
over the past few years i have adapted to the idea of taping the posts. usually i will just do one side with conductive tape since the bridge post seats are usually grounded instead of the trem on re-issue stuff, and i will only do one side, sure, it still moves .0000001 of an inch, but its not enough to truly take the intonation completely out.

I made bushings for mine. Works great.

on my jaguar it was never a problem to keep it centred. just once and it was set with any amount of trem abuse

I always use a little electrical tape to limit the range of motion but allow it to rock.

Never occurred to me that I might run into grounding problems. Don't think I have, since the posts still set on the bottom.

Mine stays upright as well, and I abuse the hell out of the trem
