I like the squier version too.
I love JM pickups but it looks wrong on the Pawnshop version. I actually think its a HB pickup under the JM cover.

The only exceptions to the slap bass rule are the song being awesome* or the bassist being Larry Graham†. Rob Chodders and his white man dreads do not fit either category. The odd patch of blues soloing can be fantastic (see: Tony Iommi) but blues noodling in guitar demo videos is never a good thing.
