Best cheap twin P90 guitar?

Post by George »

Have a desire for a twin P90 stomper. I played a gig once with an Epi gold top LP and it was fantastic, plus Dave's thread has got me wishing.

Are those still good guitars? is there anything else I should be looking at?

I think a flat top and fairly light weight would be good also

Please save me from this.

I'm sure the import duties could be a bit of a ballache, but this looks lovely. I think that Epiphone did a "custom shop" Jr too, but with the normal headstock. Not sure what country it was made in.

What do you mean by cheap? For £450 or so the Edwards Dave has is superb. Unbeatable in the <£600 range.

It's heavy and not a flat-top, though.

That looks beautiful but very expensive!

I was thinking under 250. Cheap but good value like the classic vibe range

How about the Squier Vintage Modified Tele Custom II? They can be picked up for cheaps on ebay and apparently they're really decent, I think Aen might have one.

Had one, loved it. Really great necks and pickups.

tempted by one of those squier customs, or a Vintage v100GT

both look really great. i think possibly leaning toward a v100 because it's a different flavour. i'm chock full of fender styles at the moment

I also had one good sounding guitar, but unlike watts I didn't get on with the neck.

what did you find disagreeable about the neck? i see it has 7.25" radius which is pretty uncommon for a squier. not sure what i think about that. especially with satin. bleurgh

omg at this Vintage guitar though!

Regarding the Custom II, I believe that's an error on the Fender website, unless they've changed in recent years. I owned one (a 2009 model I think) and there's no way in hell it was 7.25". Probably 9.5", maybe even flatter. I found it very similar to a Squier '51 neck...in fact it may have been the same neck. The satin isn't attractive IMO but it has a nice feel to it. They are chunky for a Fender neck and the frets are a bit bigger than many would prefer. I loved mine though, I only sold it because I bought another guitar which did the same thing, but better.

Matsumoko would be cool but I'd just like something that works straight away and has no other potential old guitar problems, I dunno, lazy I guess

Seriously considering the vintage or squier. good to know it isn't 7.25". To be honest if the squier had contours it'd be a winner straight away, but there's one on eBay for £80 at the moment too so hmm

Reckon there's a lot of variation in them, then, as the one I played had a generic weedy meh neck.

I bought this guitar from HIC. I think they go for $150. narrow neck but c shaped. Only issue was to make the nut slots wider with some 1000 grit sand paper to keep the strings binding wonking it out of tune. you probably can't get them over there.
