OK. I am in Japan on holiday. I stayed in Tokyo this week. Two stations from Ochanomizu. My younger daughter got a headache and we cancelled our afternoon. What was I SUPPOSED to do?!?






I don't like Strats and I had good self control, so all was well as I walked through the shops looking for (and finding) a well priced Fender Japan burst Strat for a friend. And then in the last shop I ducked my head into, I saw the one thing I knew I was weak for, a 70s Japanese Fender copy. And it was cheap. And then I played it (faaaairly selfconsciously in a shop in the middle of a foreign country whose language I don't speak, feeling like a gaijin wannabe) and it was sold.
Heavy like a meat axe, but - Fuji-gen 1977, pre CNC, blonde over 2-piece sen, great pickups, and a neck that will probably match my 84 Squier Tele when I get it dialed in.

So now a lot to lug around the country.

That is super nice looking. Love that authentic bananas and custard look.

Thanks for the compliments, although I think you would turn on me if I told you how cheap it was. I have to lug it and the Strat I bought for a friend through 5 cities with my young family in tow, so I am paying for it in effort.
Oh and I did my time as an amateur brazen picker - but once you turn professional you can never look back.

I like this particular mid-70's Fender vibe (heavy body, thick cream finish, white pickguard, decent rosewood, the headstock - all that nicely aged).

I love that color combo. I typically dislike Strats also, but I love that. Nice score.

It just had that THING. Given the price (OK, it was ¥24 000) I was expecting it to sound thin and dinky - but one of the shop guys had next-level chops and as he played it I thought there must be something wrong with my ears, it sounded so good. Also, 3 position switch so none of that two-pickup "quack" bullshit I hate in the Strat sound. Can't wait to get it home and spend some quality time.

LOL my family won't let me go to guitar shops anymore because I rarely leave without buying something.

Yeah, that's the first in-shop purchase I have made in a long long time.

Update - got home today after about 4 hours' sleep total in the last 52 hours. Still I had to put it back together and fire up the Twin. It appears I found the kind of Strat that suits me perfectly.

Did you have to disassemble the guitar for traveling?

I've had to before. If I've bought a guitar while traveling for work, I usually want to make it fit in a rollerboard suitcase.
