I have put a down payment on an early 80's Squiet Bullet. It's the strat style with three pickups and the telecaster neck. Serial no starts with 'SQ'.

Does anyone know what colours these were originally produced in? The one I am looking at seems to e a very very dark brown, which seems a bit odd to me. Any info greatly appreciated...

I believe they were only offered in Black and Brown Sunburst like the one below.

There used to be a site about them, I can't find it.

They were certainly also available in a creamy white, and I think maybe red too.

There is a member who is keen on SQ Bullets, he started a thread some time ago with history of the model and lots of details. I don't remember his nickname, he had Ringo on his avatar.

But those are the Fender Bullets made in the USA(like below) not the MIJ Squier Bullets with the SQ serial number that the OP asked about

Yes, I have a Squier flyer somewhere, I couldn't find it to scan, but I'm sure it had white ones, not 100% sure on the red. It also had that funny bass that came in both long and short scale, the superstrat, and of course the strat shaped Bullets with single coils and humbuckers.

I'm wrong on some counts though, the only Bullets are the two on the right, and they are Korean supposedly. Plus they were only available in black and white (open flyer in a new tab and enlarge, you can sort of read it), and with a strat headstock.

Yes,those are the later ones with an "E" serial number.



The ones with the "SQ" serial number were only available in Black and Brown sunburst as far as I know.







These were made in Japan from 1983-1984 after Fender ceased production of the Fender Bullets that had been made in the USA.

I totally had one in Red with a two-point tremolo.

Yes,those were made in Japan the late 80's and had an "E" serial number like this '87 below.





They also made them in Korea in the 80s.This MIK Bullet(below) was also made in '87

Just for reference this is the guitar. Looks black but believe me it's not. It's brown.

I'm more familiar with the early Fender units, but this site might be a big help to you. This thread might have a pic of a brown version (looks nearly black)- but the logo is different. I think it's earlier than your example.

Oh hey thanks! That TDPRI thread is great - have already seen that there were other colours, just from the first couple of pages. I am looking forward to getting this guitar soon.
