As previously seen in the classifieds a local shop had this in stock. It was listed as £895 online and £999 in store (?). Any way I wasn't originally interested in it as the bridge that's on it is from a 12 string and it is missing the pick guard and the small chrome plate on the strap peg.

I went in for another look at it yesterday while I was hunting for a Squier VI/Coronado reissue/Starcaster reissue. It was in better condition than I had remembered but still way ore than I'd be willing to spend. I spoke to the shop manager, outlined what would need to be replaced and made a lowball offer with the idea that I'd have some breathing room if we started haggling. Well, the haggling commenced and I ended up snagging it for £570 (plus a free bag/strings). It worked out £40 cheaper tan the Coronado reissue which is mental.

So I'm on the look out for a pick guard and mounting arm, trem unit (I already have a hard tailed Coronado I), Coronado bridge and the chrome plate that goes under the strap button (that was missing on my Coronado I as well.) It also needs the black plastic spacers from under the pickups.

The colour doesn't look right in these photos, the actual burst fades in really nicely in person but looks severe in the pics. For some reason the iphone always seems to make the images look cooler. The yellow is a beautiful golden colour that looks almost like faded metallic in the light, especially on the sides. Lots of checking all over the place but only a couple of places with little bits of missing paint.

Chrome pups and the checked binding I've lusted after ever since I saw Stewarts.

I just found out that the first run of these didn't have the pickup surrounds. So that's one less thing to find for it.

Mine must have looked just like that before it was stripped. It has the same pickups and checkerboard binding. Congrats!

Bloody hell. That's some price.

Mine has the black surrounds, but the plastic is fragile as hell (bakelite?). It's dated Jan 67 so a little later than yours though. If you did want some you'd be better off trying to get some made up from thin pickguard material or something like that.

Yeah they're super fragile. Now I know that it wouldn't have had them originally I'm not too fussed. I still love yours. That colour is beautiful.

I have a 1967 Coronado II as well. My guitar also came without the pickguard, though I like the look without so I never replaced it.

So you basically want a Coronado II setup like this? This is what is on my guitar though I don't have the tremolo arm yet.


It will be tough finding the tremolo and the bridge. The pickguard should not be too hard.

I will keep my eyes open for those parts and pass along the info.

I think I talked to the StayTrem guy a while back and he said he could make the trem arm.

Thanks for the info but I'll probably wait until I can get some at a better price, or at least until after Xmas. (those parts are almost as much as I paid for the whole guitar). I could sell the OG 12 string bridge but I have the feeling it could come in handy at some point.

Gotta love shop price vs paid price. Tho I wonder just how little they actually paid for it from the poor punter who took it in . Also note wrong year on the hang tag. Guess they didn't now how Coronado serial numbers were a bit screwy. I reckon they just went with whatever the seller told them it was.

When I bought mine at GC, they had it marked as 1973, based on the serial number though mine was a 1967.

Yeah some of the early ones have serials that start with 5, which IS a 70s serial. They messed up a bunch of them like that. Some of them start with 1 too. For some reason it was only the Coronados this happened with. Weird.

I knew they stopped making Coronado IIs in 1972, so I knew the 1973 was wrong. I had to take the neck off to find out the real date.

I need to go get mine out of the case and play with a Big muff.

This one is one of the early screw-up plates that starts with a 5 too. My coronado 1 has the 1 serial (I think it's a vey early one tho)

Coronado II might be my big purchase for next year. been wanting one since middle school. needs to happen.
