FAO Bassists & Pup makers: P90s in a bass?

Post by Dave »

There's really no info in this regard on the interweb so i guess it's either not popular territory or simply not investigated...

I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on a bass pickup built to p90 specs, or simply using a p90 pup in bridge position on a bass?

What are you thoughts on the tone that would give? In my head I'm assuming it would get a cool dirty tone....

Perhaps any pickup experts can tell me if the p90 style constructions already actually exists in a bass pickup, and also what defines a p90 style build?

Here's the only use of p90's for bass purposes I can find:

I thought that the Mosrite basses had P90-type thingies in them?

Anyway, it's a question that I have asked myself from time to time. Hopefully someone can actually answer it?

My experiences with P90s tell me it'd be good in a Bass VI, but my experiences with Bass VIs are fuck all.

No idea about sound, but these would track well on a bass:
