It's expensive and if you can only change the knobs, it is dumb. I guess it could be cool if you could do all 3 pickups, parallel/series and things like that. A strat doesn't have enough switches for cool stuff though.

pretty inventive idea though. I'm glad to see fender trying out new stuff like this.
a fender jaguar would be perfect for plug and play control variations like this though since the control plates are all separate from everything else.

Aye. It's a bit self defeating as well in that he mentions that you won't have to learn to solder or pay a tech to do your mods, as though this guitar would liberate you from those things. But instead you're relying on Fender selling you these cards, so you're still hardly independent in deciding what you want done with your guitar.

Actually, didn't he say that they were also gonna offer blank cards that you could customize? I have no idea how you would, but that sounds interesting.
