Jaguar or Mustang? Update: NGD

As the post says, I've got a choice. I am inheriting a guitar from an uncle and I can chose between a CIJ Mustang (CAR with comp stripe) or a CIJ Jaguar (CAR). I would be leaning towards the Jag, but sadly the fret ends are a bit "slicey". The Mustang would be cool, but I've been wanting a Jag for a while now.

Think I should try to get the jag fixed (or try to fix myself)? or just go with the stang?

EDIT: should I just switch the necks?

MAOR EDIT: PICS!

Go with the one that meant more to your uncle, dude. That's the point of heirlooms.

Barring that: STANG. CAR jags are everywhere. COMPSTRIPES ARE #RARE #BASED #SWAG.

This is the correct answer.

It should be noted that he didn't play these guitars. In fact, they may have been untouched until I looked at them (he was kind of a hoarder).

are the jag fret-ends sharp cos the fretboard is dry? would oiling the 'board make it go away? it did on my mates jag.

What one tugs at your heart? I would go 100% emotional on this one. Then just keep it.

I'd vote Compstang.

I'm a Jag guy. With that said though the Comp Stang is the better taker.

Assuming no sentimental feelings either way, then personally I would go for the Mustang as I already have a Jag. If I didn't have a Jag then I would go for the Jag.

Can't really go wrong with either though tbh.

What other guitars do you already have?

yeah i would go with the one you that means more to you. also, just throwing it out there, he'd probably want you to play it and get some use out of it.

CIJ jags weigh a ton though, which may be worth considering, and the pickups will likely be microphonic (not sure if mustangs are the same). however, could be a labour of love, and you can always find a tech to dress the frets nicely afterwards (fwiw, the CIJ jag neck i had was a thing of beauty and a fret dress and light levelling may only cost you $50 - so personally i think a neck swap might be a missed opportunity). as someone also said, could just be humidity changes etc, and may settle down. i don't think I've seen any CIJ with bad fretwork. plus jag trems own, so there'a also that to consider

Thanks everyone. I'll get some picks up today and make a final decision. I've really wanted a jag since I had to sell my Jagmaster (real Jag!) and it feels like a "smaller guitar" without feeling like a "small person's guitar" y'know? The compstripe on the mustang is the fukken SEX though, so maybe. I'll give the jaguar another shot (maybe in another room) and see if that helps the fret ends any.

Is there any way you can have both? Is the one you don't pick demised to someone else? They both sound great. I still vote Compstang, but maybe you can walk away with both if there's no one waiting for the other?

Jags WERE Fenders top of the line guitar when he was with the company and they ARE nice.
Bad frets can be fixed so I'd say go for the Jag.
Even better, make a deal to get the Jag now and the Mustang later.

Hard to say, I think that you get more with a Jaguar, and although I miss the Mustang I had a lot, I am glad I kept the Jaguar over it.

In that case go for the Jaguar!

I love my mustangs but I think the jag is probably more versatile.

I would go for the jag. Especially if it has a matching headstock
