Purple J Mascis

Post by meltedbuzzbox »

Hello all,

Does anyone have this guitar?

I am thinking about ordering one, my impatient has made me go for a MIJ instead of waiting for a blue moon to find a AVRI Jazzmaster

Im liking the idea of jumbo frets, a mustang bridge and I have to admit I love the colour even though it is a bit girlie/barbie like

edit: Whoops its not a mustang bridge its a TOM/AOM not the end of the world though

A few folks have owned this _ I think Taylornutt still has one so hopefully he can chime in with his thoughts. Here's his thread:

Taylornutt has my old one. It was one of the best guitars I ever laid hands on and I only moved it because I was consistently bothered by the TOM bridge. It didn't look right and I kept wanting to put a mustang bridge on it, but you need to drill the body. So I never did it. I miss it terribly, but I'm working on getting a nice US Jazzmaster to replace it... after I get something else out of the way.. (ric330)

I have one. :) It is Fender's TOM. I like it a lot. The satin finish neck is awesome. The frets are fine. I have vintage guitars and medium fret guitars. I don't notice much difference in feel. The pickups stock sound great. It is a sexy purple rock machine.

Fredo and Rochelle have the greatest guitar collection ever. In fact they have the greatest collection of ANYTHING ever IMHO.

I have read that the neck is a vintage radius and the tom is 12"

How does that translate into playing? Does it feel like as mess? Does it throw out intonation?

Can you get a mustang bridge in there or something else?

I have one also, and no problems with playing or intonation with the stock bridge. Hot, hot pickups.

I also don't have a problem with the bridge and radius mix. Intonated fine.

I echo everything that has been said above.

It's an amazing guitar. I love the vintage radius and the satin finish. Feels similiar to my AVRI Jaguar and nut width is the same (43mm). The purple sparkle changes color depending on the light and the gold anodized pickguard makes the guitar sound more acoustic when unplugged.

I would pickup a second one if I ever got the opportunity. The pickups sound great and I even dig the rhythm circuit. I have also had not issues so far with the bridge except that I had mine backwards when I first got it. I play mine with .11s I believe.

You wrote that you're ordering one - where can you order one? I thought, they are discontinued and only availlable used?!?

I have a white squier one and i like it a lot. I think the purple one is even better...

Think they're still available new in Japan.
