YEAHHHHHH!

Sounds great! Not as trebly as I expected, but maybe a lot of the videos I saw were through guitar amps... MORE BASS than I expected. BABOOM.
The nut is a little sloppy, there's shavings hanging off it. However the slots seem to be in the right spot.
The trem is not as responsive as the AV jag. But it works! Stays in tune and everything!

I can recommend this 100%.

Yeah, they ship with 0.84; get you some 0.95, 1.00 or 1.05 on there.

Actually, the web shite says it ships with a .95, which I believe, but even at an E on a 30" scale that is fucking bullshit.

Nah, Fender stopped making 0.95 sets about a year and a half to two yeas ago, the website lies. I'm sure if you hit the string with callipers they won't match up. Pretty much the only way to get proper strings for VI are to buy LaBellas or custom order string sets from sites like CircleK. 0.84 are a terrible mistake,and feel terrible tuned to E, but, there they are.

0.95 feels good at E, but dropping to D they're a bit bandy... they do work, but could stand a bit more tension. 1.00 or 1.05 should be fine down to D.

Muy jealous. I truly hope to join the ranks of VI owners someday.

Have just ordered some La Bella round wounds for mine. Will report back on how these are once they arrive & I try them. Stock E string on these is jokesville though.

Couldn't find sets to fit my Gretsch Baritone for ages so I finally plumped for a set of these last month:

I was changing from the D'addario 84 set and the difference was like night and day. It's now a proper Bass VI. Only major point is that they're all bass-sized ball ends which I suspect would have been more of an issue if I hadn't had a Vibratrem string spoiler on there (fucking INVALUABLE when changing strings on a bigsby).

I do have two sets of baritone bass strings that never fit if anyone would like me to send them on. I think one set is designed for a Schecter and the other is an Ernie Ball set designed specifically for a Bass VI.

Ah, good to know; I was thinking about linking to those yesterday... with the bass-size balls there would be issues with the vibrato on the Squier/Fender. You'd be able to bend down in pitch, but probably not up.

That's what I suspected. Like I said, it probably would have been mildly (incredibly) frustrating on the bigsby as well when stringing up but for the string spoiler I stuck on it.

make one of yr famous crazy demos and let us hear how devastating that thing can sound. I know you have it in you.

What's your tuning solution for this? AenStandard transposed higher?

I'm going Aenstandard. I put a big flatwound on it yesterday, still a little soft. But I also ordered a custom set from La Bella, with a 100 on the bottom. A little lighter than I tend to use on short scales, but I'm concerned about clumping up the fretboard...

yeah, i tried it with the bottom tuned to D at a rehearsal and it was well futile. total joke. just working up to shelling out £36 for a decent set of strangz.
