Lipstick Humbuckers : Anyone ? Bueller ?

Post by Rox »

I've been bouncing the idea of ordering some Lipstick Humbuckers ( prolly GFS ) for my Jag Special HH . Something different to anything else in my little arsenal . I was thinking filtertrons but I have plans for another guitar with that .
My issue is frankly anyone I've seen ever really commented on them either A) Never had them. B) Loved them but prolly never had them or C) Hated them because the most likely know nothing about lipsticks and had too high expectations of them .
I posted something in Offset and got a comment from someone who " heard " they were mediocre ..LOL
I'm thinking them because it's different and they can be split/tapped ( whatever ) . I read somewhere that they were weak but they pull 11 and 9 ohms which is a bit hotter than a Dragster so I couldn't understand why .
I'm sure someone has played with them here . What's the deal with them ? ((thumup) or ((thumbsdown)) ?

You mean " Project" ? Well if no one is hitting it here it won't be hot there. Guess guys been TALKING about getting them but just don't pull the trigger on them.

So after the fact I sorted my sig and my thread should have been put in another category ( because informing me of this really helped  ) does anyone have any experience with them ?

Yeah I got one in my Jag Stang. Wired it in, then hit a D Minor chord that caused a reverberation all around, and cold squamous fingers ran up my spine. An unholy light emitted from a doorway that hadn't been there but seconds before. Four pale and nightmarishly garbed figures energed, replete from head to ghastly toes in black leather, each queerly distorted with cold black eyes. The creature nearest to me, a terrifying homunculus with pins nailed in precise and obscene geometries o'er it's head, affixed my fleshy protuberances with a maelstrom of viscious flying barbs, delivered on fetid iron chains by an unseen praeternatural agency of truly frightening power. The Thing uttered one sound, a sound that in my eternal torment I shall never forget:

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

I like it, I'm no expert. Not tried anywhere near the amount of pups as most here, so my pallette isn't well educated, because generally I can always get something that I like with every pickup I've ever played (i.e spiky and nasty). I'm pretty Low maintenance like that really. Either that or I have TEH BEST CHOKLETT FINGURS ON TEH SHARTSCAEL. But yeah, no.

Just do it, they are cheap as chips. It's hardly a huge investment nor irreversible. Even if someone says they are awesome you might not in reality like 'em. So dew eet
