unemployment does have some unique advantages, this popped up on my local kijiji, and the guy let it go for $100
no footswitch (the gain channel is a bit shit anyways) but it is a surprisingly good sounding amp. I cranked the reverb, put it in the basement which has no furniture at the moment, and had all kinds of fun playing pixies and social distortion riffs.
does anyone know what the difference is between this and the studio 85 and Eighty Five, aside from the gain channel?

I never hear much about SS Fender amps but a friend of mine had (or maybe still has) a Deluxe 85 combo, except I don't recall that one having red knobs. The gain channel on that was a bit mushy too iirc, but I was pleasantly surprised at the clean sound...and how loud it could get.

All the Radiohead fanboys are crying with envy right now. Johhny Greenwood plays one of these, he runs his dirt pedals through it.

Crying in disbelief, because it's not that amp. Apparently it's just the 'Eighty-Five' he uses.

Differences aren't that big according to offset, this has a separate clean channel, and a slightly larger cab. Greenwood tonez!!!!!!!!

Ok, I see that now, close enough for me, this amp just has more knobs than Johnny Appleseed's.

I've got a Deluxe 85, they aren't bad amps - decent cleans. You can mix the gain and clean channels together, which is an interesting feature.

Lots of SS amps have really great clean sounds and take pedals well. The older Yamaha SS amps, Acoustic Control Corporation, a few others. I've never got my hands on any of the Fender SS amps, never seem to get them cheap in my area. Scarily there now seems to be a market for Peavey Bandits which is bloody annoying as I want two of them for a stereo rig and every sodding seller wants well over £100 for them!

Peavey Bandits are a desired amp? WTF, what famous asshole is using them?

TDPRI has a fourteen page Bandit Club thread.

I have a Peavey Renown that I like.

The reverb triggers crazy feedback though. There is probably a trim pot in the amp I need to turn down. Just haven't gotten around to messing with it.

TPDRI has always had big Peavey love, but they're hardly going to shell out $100 for a Bandit.

I have no idea if anyone famous is using them but prices here in the UK are way way up on what they were two years ago. As ridiculous as it sounds, I had two as a stereo rig going straight into the power amps and used pedals for EQ and distortion and it was a great little setup.

The other guitarist in my band has one of these. It's had a lot of reliability issues, which is kind of shit considering it's his main amp, but when it does work it sounds fucking great.
