NGD: CIJ Jaguar

As I mentioned in another thread, I just couldn't get on with the medium jumbo frets on my Squier VM Jag, so I've upgraded to this sunburst CIJ.
Saw it on Gumtree and collected it earlier this week. Definitely a step up in quality from the Squier, and of course I much prefer the vintage frets and radius. This one's noticeably heavier as well.
It's got a Q- serial number, which dates it at 2002–4.
Anyway, I've pimped it with Fender AVRI pickups, Mustang bridge and an aged white trem tip to match the pup covers.
One issue is that the G-string sits too low in the nut and therefore buzzes on the first fret. I'll get a new nut cut at some stage.
I'd also like a parchment pickguard.

Congrats. Japanese Jags are probably my favorite guitars. (And I have a few guitars.)

One way to fix this is to take a fine file and file a bit of the nut gently above a piece of paper or something to collect the dust that falls. You don't need alot, just a tiny bit, then mix this dust with a tiny amount of super glue in a bottle cap using a tooth pick. then apply this to the nut slot for the G string. When it's dry, about an hour or so later, then refile it to the right height. This is easier than replacing the nut.
Nice Jag BTW, looks exactly like my AVRI.

Thanks, yeah I've read about this fix (except using baking soda rather than nut filings). I dunno, I wouldn't back myself to not make a complete mess of it. A nice new bone nut made by my luthier would be an excellent upgrade anyway.

Nice Jag Noisy Cat. I've had my MIJ Jag for over 20 years now and if I had to give up all but one of my guitars it is the one I'd keep.

It is. Swopped out the HHs for 62RI Jag pickups . Not that hard and worked out awesome.

So I've since made a few more changes:
- Replaced the AVRI pickups with a Mojo 'CBS 65–69' pair (although I kept the AVRI covers)
- Replaced the Mustang bridge with a Staytrem
- Replaced the CIJ trem unit with an AVRI one
- Fitted a Staytrem arm and collet
- Replaced the stock tort guard with an 'aged white' one (cheapo from China, via Amazon)
- Replaced the CIJ knobs with USA (AV65) ones
- Strings: D'Addario 11–49 with a wound G – so much better than plain
I'm pretty happy with this now and can't see myself doing anything else to it!

Wow, I love it. I think the new pickguard really looks fantastic.
At the moment I'm mostly playing a Squier Jazzmaster... This week I finally broke down and ordered a Staytrem. Really excited, as other users such as Mike and Gusman have been singing its praises for a while.
As others have said, you really have a beautiful collection.

Sorry mate, I've put it on my Squier Jazzmaster for the time being, although I will probably buy an AVRI unit for it as well, eventually.
For what it's worth, I reckon the Squier unit is better/smoother than the CIJ – the AVRI easily trumps them both though.
