Within the last month I've really wanted a Casino. One popped up in the local guitar shop back home and I bought it with HSC! It's really light. Way lighter than I thought it would be. It's MIK from 2001 which seems to be a good year for Epis. Great fretwork and super easy to play. Love the unplugged sound and how easily the pickups breakup with dirt.





And here's a pic of the guitar rack I built out of PVC 'cause I'm pretty proud of it.

nice score. briefly had a peerless songbird. it's basically a casino made in the original factory the epiphones were. great unplugged sounds and the neck pickup into a clean amp was just the tits.

My favorite production Epi neck for sure. So narrow and comfy.

I used to own an Epiphone Elitist Casino. I sold it because I figured eventually I want to 'upgrade' to a Gibson ES-330. I still intend on doing that someday, but there are a few more guitars I'd like to sell before buying any more.

These are great guitars, even the Standard line of Casino. They made me want to never go back to playing any guitar that weighs over 7 lbs.

...And in addition to being ridiculously lightweight, Casinos are one of those spanky single coil'd guitars that sound so distinctively hollow, there's really nothing tonally like them in that price range. Heading in Bigsby and center-block territory, if only Gibbo stopped making 4 different Casinos of basically the same specifications and at least made anything close to the Luther Dickinson ES-330 model in the Quingdao factory, I'd be over the moon.

And unlike cheapo Epiphone 3rd rate P90s, overblown orangeblast sunburst and too much white plastic fare...a proper B7, dots instead of blocks, and lots of black here and there plus classic Marlboro-teeth binding on the body and neck all look rather purty, too.

I don't know about Qingdao, but I think a lot of other guitars from China are made in Shandong province.

I don't see why Chinese Epiphones would be better. Quality control at Epiphone is pretty poor. They're not all bad, but the QC people probably just get drunk all day and put on stickers, or get bribes to let crap guitars through.

Not to be compared with Fender, Squier, Gretsch or Ibanez made in China, those seem to have much better quality control.

I'm no expert but I believe that back when Epiphone Casinos were made in Korea, they were made by Peerless.

I'm no expert but I believe that back when Epiphone Casinos were made in Korea, they were made by Peerless.

In addition to owning a few Peerless up to the recent past, I've been around plenty of Songbirds and Hardtails over here to know how solidly constructed they are, although the Revolver can hardly be found on these shores. Great design nonetheless, I love how it's like the older 330s that has the neck join at the 19th instead of 16th fret, just seems more comfy and classy for them meedley-meedlies.

Yeah, the unplugged sound of a Casino can be almost inspiring, nice and loud. Curious how your pickup volume balance is though. I've seen Casinos from Peerless factory needing to have the neck p'up pole pieces dropped and the bridge poles raised to sound alright when switching, although the toanz themselves didn't seem to be all that bad for cheapo overwound single coils.

I must say, I'm really impressed by the tones on a demo I found of the semi-hollow Xaviere:

It seems pretty balanced to me. Excellent cleans and I used the middle position recently!? What is this madness?

I used to have an Epi g-400 made in '01 (I'm sure also from the Peerless factory) that played just as nice as the Casino. 2001 man. Great year for Epiphones.

And very nicely the Revolver plays too. I can't get on with Casinos, I don't like the trapeze tailpiece or the lightweight nature, and the Revolver does bring it closer to 335 standard. Very happy with my Peerless Hardtail.
