Thought I'd ask others to post their home studio set ups. This is mine


Just getting everything sorted out after the move but basically it's:

• ableton suite

• korg r3

• akai apc40

• lexicon lambda recording interface

• krk rokit r5s

• various vst plug ins

• sm57

• art tube mic pre amp

• guitars/amps/pedals & tings

• irig midi which helps with the ipdad with apps like animoog & ims20

• various percussion instruments

Would like to start getting some outboard effects.

Been messing about with max4live & reamping via my pedals/bassman recently. Sampling output then using granulator from Robert Henke for some sweet sounds

Nice set up! I'm trying to sort one on a tightfisted budget...
I've just bought some M-Audio AV30's off gumtree fer £40, and have to get an usb interface and software...
I've been tinkering with a trial of Audacity for pc but not sure if it's the dogs bollox, the bees knees, or cat crap...
Any suggestions?
Ive also been looking at lots of different interfaces and the focusrite scarlet 212, and edirol, maudio seem to be cheapish enough for me 2nd hand...only thinking 2 inputs...

Give Reaper a go. The free demo is fully functioned and you can go on using it indefinitely if you really want (the license is pretty cheap though - certainly much cheaper than any of the other main DAWs).

Funnily enough I was only looking at this thread the other day, in the hope that other people had posted their set ups.

I've now got a room where I can set up all my stuff so am in the process of sorting out all the bits and bobs I need. The big glaring gap is a pair of monitors (have always used headphones in the past and then via a hi-fi ). Also want to grab another microphone or two. Some of my gear is still in storage but I should be picking that up in the next couple of weeks and then can start setting everything up. Am excite.

KRK or Yammies are both good solutions for inexpensive monitors.

I would have posted my studio set up a while back, but I sold so much gear before moving overseas. Now have the mobile set up: an Apogee Jam (which plugs into my iPad or MacBook) and Sennheiser headphones. Simple and efficient. Quality? We'll soon see...

Johnny give reaper a blast. As for two inputs you should be fine. You can always get a cheaper mixer with more channels or a patch bay.

It is indeed in my home. I have a second setup consisting of two TUBEOPTO 8 channel pre/converters that I use to record drums elsewhere, since I can't be pissin' off the neighbors.

With the office studio in proper order, I'm not a fan of working at home...especially when I get "that call" to do additional edits of stuff. Will soon be getting rid of the home outboard MIDI gear and fully internalizing to soft synths, also by retiring the office iMac to home (thanks boss!), but until then it still pretty much looks like this silly mess.

What's the midi outboard gear & what are you replacing it with?

Yeah the authentic 'Doo (in F) gets some use, but is mostly a conversation piece in the house.

The entire setup is pretty much from 2001: Dying MOTU 828, teh Kurdtz PC2R (great Electric Piano selection), Roland JV-2080 w/6 expansion boards, Yamaha P80, EMU E5000 (w/tiny little 20gb SCSI drive!) MOTU Timepiece for added headaches, always-faithful VirusKB with expansion. I still use certain tones from both the Roland as well as the Virus because they're so awesome, but with my office iMac running the massive KONTAKT8 with a bunch of 8DIO/Soundiron/Cinesamples etc libraries on KONTAKT, it's been getting silly to think about dialing in external sources. Add SDII and expansion drumsets, Spectrasonics' amazing Omnispere and Trilian, and dozens of other synths, and hooking up wires is becomes cumbersome and not helpful to the creative process.

Among stuff that will definitely stay are the NS10s and the ol' SPL Channel1, which is by far my favorite "Preamp/Comp/EQ for us clueless dorks", especially how it being a hybrid valve preamp ensures vox/guitars, etc don't sound too "tubey". I have the more recent silverface version of it at the office, and it makes everything going into it sound at least decent and useable in the digital realm, if not very nice. Get one on the used market if you can find one, it's an absolute effortless package with a very easy to dial in comp that is practically automatic in operation.

Of course, WAVES Mercury bundle gets use on every project as well, although having to transfer the license online from the office to home and back is a PITA.

Yeh! I'm getting one step closer now...have just scored an Avid MAudio Fast Track with Pro Tools SE for £29 from a local cash converters..now got my eye on a full midi keyboard...it's an Evolution 261..doesn't come with a midi cable, but has the power supply for £20 locally...any experience with this one??
