Ok all...havent posted for a while as ive been busy getting ready for a house move to a bigger pad....
This new one has a fook-off double garage to stick all me tools and shit in, so im very stiff in the trouser department, at the prospect of projects
and the like to come....

Thought id post me Strat build that ive been tinkering with the past few months on and off..

I bought the Strat body off NickD, along with a Jay Turser neck, and Nick also donated the trem and jack plate (Cheers!)...then Ebay for Mint scratchplate material, and raided my parts bin for some P90 pickups i had knocking around...

First I came up with a paper template which was a combination of Jazzmaster/Jagmaster/Strat, with P90's traced onto it, then i cut it and routed it out of 10mm mdf....

Image

While i was waiting for my pickguard material to come from Ebay, i decided to extend the routes for the P90's, toggle switch void, and then shield everything with foil tape...

Image

I chose a mint pickguard over everything else as i thought it would look classy against the trans-blonde body...

Image

Here's the guard fitted up...had to make one or two more re-routes before that, as the neck and P90's didnt sit right, before i re-strung with D'addario's. Had to source a new nut for the neck as well, and at the same time i leaded the string slots....
Also fitted some classy looking Pearl Gotoh tuners whilst i was at it!...Niccceeeee!!

Image

And finally a close up of my knobs!.....another Bronco-stylee Ebay Bargain...£ 1.50 each plus 99p postage!....Tastyyyy!

Image

All in all am very pleased with the outcome, as im not normally a fan of the Strat and how it looks, and think it now looks more Jazzery which i can definitely live with... Plugging in tho, i have a prob with the wiring ive gotta sort out...think its a faulty toggle switch
Cheers
Johnny...

Like mine - a $5 junk shop body, HH pickguard, two Surf 90s and the stripped neck of my first cheap electric from the days when the Jesus and Mary Chain were the rulers of Earth.
It's got 1M pots which need to be swapped for something a little less harsh, but it sounds pretty good.

Nice stuff and great work with the available resources, gents.

On a slightly related note, hot singles in a random Strat body reminds me of this odd thing I snagged shots of many moons ago, Tele-esque saddles, Dynasonics and all...

Looks good! I'm particularly impressed how un strat like it looks.

That blonde body was the best of the ones I had IMO.

That looks very tasty! Looks great with those Surf 90's....JAMC still rule in my eyes 8) I had their pleasure back in 1993 on The Roller Coaster tour...with My Bloody Valentine (Epic!), and Dinosaur Junior with Lou on Bass!..Kin tastic!!!!

Yep! bit like The Wombles  ...ive just gotta get the wiring sorted on mine, which is probably down to a duff toggle switch
Shit-A-Brick!...That Strat looks AMAZING!...could almost be a Duo-Sonic..hhhmmmmm, that would be fun with those Dyna's in!.....

Funny you should say that!..That was my intention from the off...didnt fancy the black guard, so envisioned something a bit different in my stable....
The P90's were knocking around, so i thought Minty minty or off white guard to suit...I basically traced the black guard you sent me, but altered the shape at the controls to curve more, and gave it a jazzmaster look at the other end. I used most of the original screw holes, so if i decide to stick a normal guard on, you wont see any other holes!...Like you say, the blonde does look real purty....
Cheers Nick! thanks again for the sale, and extra bits you donated...top banana!....

Good news on the new pad Johnny, agree on JAMC and like the Strat as well :)

I put something similar together a few years ago, it was a Wesley Jazzmaster, I put 2 x Epiphone Soapbars in it and a Squier Strat neck. It had a great sound but I ended up swapping it for a Dano U2, which was incidently shite.

Might drop some in my current Squier Strat, I feel it needs something but I want something I haven't got in another guitar.

Cheers Fran, me n the good lady are very excited about having our own love-nest ha ha...but with the added bonus of the workshop-come-studio (ssshhhh havent told other half yet)..i just wanna get in there, get set up properly, and finish my Dick Dale inspired Jazzmaster...got the paint, got the Gold Flake (oooeeerrr)...cant wait to finish it..its at the primer stage at the minute, but it had a bad reaction to heat and has crazed a little...soon sort that tho!

Strange, you wouldn't by chance know what the pickup surrounds on that are from, or where to get them?
