Just got this off my best mate. It's a 1990/91 Fenix Telecaster by Young Chang.

It's fucking neat. It was originally owned by my School but they were cunts and thought it was crap. A mate of mine bought it off them for £20. And then ended up with him and now it's been passed along to me. It needs a little setup and some tweaking but it's a okay for the most part :D

Mate of mine had a Fenix Strat from around 90/91. Was a decent guitar from what I remember (was a long time ago though).

Certainly can't go wrong for £20.

I have one in my possession that really belongs to my brother, of that exact era. Was trying to flog it recently for him.

They're really great guitar and a bargain at that. How you getting on with the thin / wide neck ?

I like it so far. Feels like a Mexican Standard Tele neck but nicely aged and worn.

Done a little research and it might actually be a late 80's model actually.

I think the fretboard is a fair bit wider, and skinnier front to back than a Mex... although maybe ours differ slightly.

If you find any worthwhile info please let me know.

Was asking £200 for mine without any real interest. Think £150 is probably about its value to be honest.

I saw a Young Chang Squier Telecaster from the same era and same colour scheme sell for £250 at my local place.

Although not sure if that's a good way of judging the value :?

Most Fenix stuff that pops up on the ol' Gumtree is priced about £50-£100. Just one of many decent cheap "tribute" guitars that were about in the 80s/90s. They're way better quality than most of the ultra cheap stuff you get these days. They were one of the sub £100 new guitars that you could get in shop that were decent quality. Most of my local guitar shops back in the day had a little section with them in it. Fenix, Hohner, and a couple of others... the off brand Ibanez and I can't remember the other one.

That might have been it.. tho I think they were later. I think the other one may have started with C... They mage a really weird Strat that has a built in distortion, Phase and chorus. They were super popular at the time (mid 90s). Oh and there was the budget Yamaha line too. They were the best bang for your buck (albeit an ugly one.).

I forgot to say if you got that for £20 you got the bargain of the century. The only reason they can be priced low on gumtree is because a lot of people haven't heard of them. You get a lot os " Found my sons old guitar in the loft" listings.

I thought there had been one one here that changed hands a few times...

Nice one.

Might upgrade the bridge at some point. It's not the original on there atm, just some cheapo shitty bridge gonna get a MiM bridge when I can be fucked.

I'd recommend the Wilkinson one withe the brass compensated saddles. I have 2 of them and they're way better than the MIM ones. I'll be replacing the one on my Baja next string change.

Here's a LINK under £19.99 new

Free postage too. (no affilliation)

Nah, I want a six saddle bridge for this.

Am now considering that one you suggested there, Thomas.

But I think that one and the Mexican Telecaster bridge I've been eyeing up will require some work so they fit. I think a friend of mine can do that for me no problem but it's still annoying.
