I played this thing today at guitar guitar in Glasgow, and really liked it.

My only excuse is that I'm a big Robin Guthrie fan and he played on when I seen him back in the 90s.

You are absolved.

If it feels good and sounds good, who cares about anything else? People like what they like.

The styling doesn't do it for me, but a friend of mine swears by them - I've played his and they play well and sound good.

PRSs are like BMWs and Volvos: well-made, nice-looking depending on your tastes, somewhat expensive and have a public image that's spoiled by a douche-y minority of people who own them.

If it sounds right and feels right that's what matters really. I like the styling of some of them but not others. I quite like the look of this one though.

So: how would you describe the sound and playability? I've always wanted to hear an opinion of the brand from someone who's not a blooz lawyer or guitar magazine columnist.

No shame in liking PRS, although that one isn't my style. That's a Custom 24, yes? Hadn't seen one in green before.

Love that analogy, but well, I don't think that you can use this specific guitar as a way to typify the brand. It's part of the SE line, which are made in Korea and lack many of the features of the USA models. Thick urethane finish, Korean-made hardware and pickups, no special switching, cheap inlay, etc. USA models are much, much nicer feeling and sounding guitars. With a few exceptions of course.

The SE models, on the whole, are still fantastic players. The scale length (25"), fret size (medium but not as big as Gibson), and neck shapes are all basically the same as their American brethren. And something about that combination is magical. An SE Singlecut is what got me into the brand, in fact. But the SE pickups are nothing special, as you might expect. Upgrade the pickups and electronics and you have one killer guitar :D

Liked the 25" scale length, has more chime than my Gibson scale guitars but less twang than my fenders, I seemed to adjust my playing to fit so it had me playing different stuff the I usually do (i.e. More garage rock on the gibbos and more arpeggios on the fenders), the body shape is really comfortable, hangs well on a strap. I've wanted a green guitar for some time. I thought the pickups were pretty good nowhere near as dark as the ones my blacktop Tele came with, the only thing I didn't like was the bird inlays.

Oh and I'm a fan of the coil tap... So points for that.

its too expensive for what it is, and no one will ever take you seriously if you play that thing live-- if you have PRS cash lying around buy a nice amp

I thought the bird inlays were the best part!

That said, buy a nice amp.

It's not a matter of others' opinions. Who cares what people think so long as you're happy? Yet I think brainfur is right about one thing: prolly too expensive for what it is.

I'm sure it plays really well, tho.

People always never take me seriously when I play... Wasn't any more expensive than my blacktop, and I have my amp needs covered.

Surely its the players you don't like rather than the company, they just make guitars...

if you do buy a PRS u should put stickers all over it, get it autographed by the next band you meet, and color in the bird inlays with a sharpie
