Well, it's probably a matter of taste and the title of the treat is just indicative. I like Oasis, A LOT. And I'd like to buy a Gibson-style guitar with humbucker and set in neck in the future. What would you buy between a Les Paul and a Dot/Es-335/Sheraton/semi-hollow guitar? By the way, do you like Oasis? My favourite albums are "Definitely Maybe", "(What's the Story?) Morning Glory", "Be Here Now" and their last "Dig Out Your Soul".

I thought Noel used to play an ordinary old Epi LP, but the infamous 'union jack' is an ES of some sort. Either a 335 or Sheraton, I can't remember. I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

FWIW, I quite enjoyed listening to Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory over the years - it was a natural thing for a UK teenager who didn't know any different in the mid to late 90s to start off playing their stuff. I know I did. Dig Out Your Soul is a pretty good record as well actually...not a bad way for the band to wrap things up, looking back. The bits in between are pretty 'meh' though.

Personally, I already own a Sheraton and all it needs is a new set of pups. The thing that put me off an LP is the fact that everyone digs LPs while the semi-hollows don't seem to get enough love considering how cool they sound. Plus Nick McCabe played an ES on Storm in Heaven so yeah. I'm hardly one to talk when it comes to "I wanted this guitar because a player I admire used one."

Buy a 335 or a Casino, I tried a Casino Couple recently and loved it. Buy a Marshally Overdrive either amp or pedal. Buy a delay pedal.

That's all you really need.

My indecision is not so due to the fact that Noel plays these guitars (in fact, unlike many people here in Italy that buy stratocaters because they idolize David Gilmour, my first guitar was a Duo Sonic that is totally uncommon and "exotic" here): I want a guitar with humbuckers with set in neck, just for a different sound and construction type from my two guitars that are fender-style with single coils. I DON'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE FOR A GIBSON, I probably will buy a cheap copy (Epiphone, Harley Benton or Vintage). I don't like SGs so my choice is between the other two famous Gibson models, that's all. I tried an Epi Es-339 Pro and a Casino: the first one sounded as a fart with horrible split coil humbuckers, the second sounded good but I wouldn't buy a guitar with feedback problems, too difficult to handle. I tried instead an Epiphone The Dot on an Orange AD30, good amp: the guitar had a decent resonance and the sound was just as I imagined it but I wasn't so impressed by that guitar, maybe the humbuckers were the cause. Now I'm waiting for the opportunity to try an Epi Les Paul. I underline that I'd like to buy a guitar with humbucker but with set in neck: if it wasn't for this reason, I probably would buy a Squier Telecaster Deluxe.

Just use whatever the Beatles used. I hear they were sort of into that band.

But srsly, hollowbody Epis and Gibsons and a few Rickenbackers here and there for the jangles.

As a sort of historical perspective, and why your reaction from some UK guyz may differ from Noirie's, Frances Bean and other latecomers From 1995 to 2005, every single band on the UK toilet venue circuit sounded and looked exactly like Oasis. Thousands of pub guys in Adidas and Ben Sherman with oily hair playing cowboy chords on Epiphone Semis while drawling lazy vocals. Can you imagine what that was like? Can you? Do you know how frightened I am that it'll come back any time soon, or how my stomach sank when I saw the singer in Eagulls? I'm getting shivers now.

Well, every "historical period" has its own trend: if I should follow your reasoning, I could say that nowadays the trend in UK is that of bands like as Arctic Monkeys and The Cribs with strange lines of rhythm guitar, similar sound among the different bands and lots of semi hollow guitars, especially Gibson ES-335 and Fender Starcaster (even Manic Street Preachers have used the modern player Starcaster in their last music video). However, I don't think all this is a negative point; in fact I listen to Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs and MSP.

When I say here I mean forum, not Kazakhstan. I guess that it was too much of Oasis for many Brits, considering the fact that Oasis positioned their creation as "the best after the Beatles". And there were popular genres like grunge and shoegaze that time that had nothing common with britpop. I have the theory that Oasis are more popular in Europe, South America, Japan and partly Russia and Kazakhstan than in England itself. Maybe we foreigners who didn't observed all the hype in media about them percieve them easier - nobody imposed them us to listen.

I think you can use any guitar you like for their sound, rythm guitar should be overdriven to the level when sound is already distorted, but open chords and full barre chords still sound harmoniously, and distort lead guitar a little bit more to cut through rythm parts.

Ian Brown really can't sing though. No idea how Oasis got so big with him. Maybe it was Damian Albarn's great guitar work, though.

They had John Squier on bass, that's why it worked out. He has a strong feeling of rythm, he was the drummer of Kula Shaker before that

I lost interest in britpop when Elastica changed their name to Republica and Chris Evans suicide-bombed Dani Behr, live, on Gladiators. It was all a bit forced.

I saw both Noel and Bonehead's actual Rivieras at a Oasis exhbit in East London a couple months back.
I was in fucking awe and stared at them for ages. Blew my drunk and stoned mind at the time.
