Dunlop Fuzz Face and the output cap
I changed out the .1 uf output cap in my germanium mini Fuzz Face to a .01 uf after being told by everyone that it's closer to vintage spec. Woe and behold there's less bass.

I used to be heavily into Fuzz Faces, I used a late 80s Dunlop black Jimi Hendrix a lot, until a couple years ago, when I started thinking it sounds like shit, either the transistors started getting bad or my tastes changed, or both.
I have since bought a blue mini on an impulse buy, I got some ok sounds in combination with other pedals, but I don't think it's that great.
I like your playing and that beat you made at the beginning though, I like that a lot.

I found the mini silicon was just way to high gain for what I consider a usable Fuzz Face tone. Sounded more muff like in my experience. I already have a collection of muff circuits, don't need a round one too. Maybe the output cap mod would change that though, who knows?Fakir Mustache wrote:I used to be heavily into Fuzz Faces, I used a late 80s Dunlop black Jimi Hendrix a lot, until a couple years ago, when I started thinking it sounds like shit, either the transistors started getting bad or my tastes changed, or both.

Thank you for your kind words, I'm trying to increase the quality of my demos and stuff and I figure a band context would help a lot in that respect.

The blue one is probably higher gain than other Fuzz Faces, but really not that high gain as far as fuzzes are concerned. A lot lower maximum fuzz than most real Muffs, it's like overdrive output.
I guess you're supposed to combine it with amp distortion, Jimi just turned up, but he used a variety of circuits. I still haven't found a combination that sounds really cool though.
The blue one is really weird, it has a lot of low end and a lot of high end is there too.
