So my old solid state crate amp finally died, and I was on Craigslist looking for something to hold me up for a little while, and I saw a Marshall G100R head for sale. The seller was asking $100, but he agreed to drop the price to $80
Is this amp decent? I really don't have a good budget right now, and I just need something to use for a bit.
I haven't tried the amp yet but I'm planning to try it tonight

I'd imagine it's $80 good.

For cheap solid state tonez I'd be looking at a Roland Cube but I think you'd be doing well to get one that cheap.

I like Roland cubes a lot for their gain channel and effects, but I'm not a huge fan of their clean

Ha, I was the exact opposite. I never really used the dirt but relied on the clean channel for gigs a few years back. I had a pretty good pedalboard pretty much dedicated to nice overdrives at that point and found the Roland handled pedals brilliantly.

The JC setting and fender amp models are both really good for a clean tone. They take pedals pretty well too. I like Roland Cubes.

Yep, that's what I was about.

Well after reading info on them and hearing some more demos, I decided to pass on it and bought myself a Marshall AVT50H for $150

I'm sure it sounds totally different

Actually there's quite a difference in sound with the G100 and the AVT50. The tube in the avt helps out a lot

Anyways the amp should be arriving on Wednesday or thursday, so I'm pretty excited for it. I ended out getting the combo since it was cheaper than the head and i can use it in my bedroom instead of using it with my 4x12 in the garage
