Hi.

Just about to fit a SD SCPB-3 in my bronco and would like to know of any tips and advice in advance please? Looks like I have to build up the cavity for the pup to sit a tthe right hight. I also may have to widen the cavity slightly for accurate alignment with the E string.

Rather than "build up" the cavity, use foam stuck under the pickup... that's what Fender do/did on basses and the Jazzmaster/Jaguar.

This is without doubt one of those times where you should never buy the product marketed as for a guitar specific use.

Work out what size you need and you can buy five metres of the stuff for the price they're charging for two little off cuts.

I'm slightly confused bu the foam however, I presumed the pup would have to screw directly into the body - there are no springs or such supplied.

Apologies if i'm not on the right track here, this is my first project.

The pickups do screw into the body but sat on top of the foam.

The foam effectively acts like a spring. It's not as adjustable of course, but it will compress a little to allow some adjustment. As long as the height of the foam is pretty close to where you want it it will be fine and will have sufficient range of adjustment.

It means that you'll likely have to have the pickup screws underneath the pickguard. Or you could use a spring or piece of tubing to act as a spacer and still have the screws go through the pickguard.
