That thing is beautiful, but I have to wonder, how do they know it's really THE first one to be made (or presumably, the first one to be sold)?

The Strat belongs to Richard Smith.He is the curator of the Fender Museum in Fullerton, Calif. Over 30 years ago while combing through the original sales records Fender kept at Fullerton Smith found the address and phone number of the original owner. He contacted man and found out that he still owned the guitar and was willing to sell it to him. It was on display at the museum from 2006-2014
