Stuff I did

Post by sholkham »

I had some free time to DIY stuff recently so I made a boost pedal and added a tone control to my amp. Sorry for the rubbish phone pics

A) Boost:

I built a simple duende boost from the tagboard FX site into the shell of an old chorus pedal I wasn't using. I also built this on veroboard so I'm amazed it works, even though I managed to break the mains adapter. It's batteries only until I make another parts order.

Soundwise I really like it and I find myself leaving it on to give my amp a little kick.

B) Tone mod

The Fender Excelsior comes with a tone switch instead of a pot which is neat in some ways but curseworthy in others. fortunately replacing the switch with a 500k pot is well documented online and easy to do, even with my clumsy hands

It seems to work fine, and its good for taming the high end a bit. The hardest part about this mod was adapting the switch space as well as the washer I used to fit the pot. I did have a 'oh fuck I've bricked it' moment when I first fired it up; seems like when moving the amp around I must have just nudged the fuse out slightly.

yep, It might seem like a bit of a waste of another peda,l but it was never really a good chorus effect. I think I got it from a second hand shop for about £10
