Orange Crush mysteriously jacked up

Post by r40f »

hi everybody. my friend has had an "Orange Crush PiX 12L" for just a couple of years, barely used it. now something very strange is happening. i was hoping someone might know what is going on so it can be fixed.

with the gain setting turned up to about 4, the guitar will make an incredibly noisy, barely-there rattling sound. sort of like between stations on the radio but less audio. turn it up beyond that and there's no guitar coming through. the volume and OD controls don't seem to matter and the thing is basically useless now.

i've never seen this before. is this something anyone has ever seen? thanks very much for your time.

You could have a dusty volume or gain knob. Try shooting some CO2 into it to clean it up . The jack could be messed up too but it sounds like the volume knob.

Another possibility is an internal earthing issue and it's going into high-frequency oscillation.

[edit] Actually, judging by a couple comments elsewhere it could be due to a bad solder joint. Is it under warranty?

Try your guitar in another amp to see if its not the guitar, also try different cords as well. You have to isolate the exact source of the problem by eliminating all other variables.
