The high E is on the edge of the fretboard, there a bit more space on the low E side and the inlays don't exactly line up.

Tried unscrewing the neck screws and nudging it in place but no luck there.

What do?

Could redrill the neck. Plug the holes with dowels, put the high and low e strings on to line it up, clamp the neck on the body, drill, screw.

Was it good before? What's the story.

it's always been like that. I hadn't noticed until I started reading up on neck allignment though. It's bothered the shit out of me since.

I just recently started noticing the alignment on all my guitars, too. Specifically on one parts-Stang that I put together that didn't line up exactly straight. I've even noticed that the Fenders I have don't all line up exactly down the middle either. You're right, though. Now that I've noticed it, I can't stop obsessing over it. I try not to think about it too much.

I'll have to buy another high E string and then I'll get a photo up.

I have managed to unscrew the neck and brute force it to the side, which may be easier with shorter neck. You have to plow through the initial terror and good sense. I have also been able to do something similar with the bridge, by loosening the screws just slightly. There can be enough wiggle room to allow for slight correction of the angle.

Even with modern tools, wood isn't the best material for precision, and it breathes and moves over time. Much more so when built by hungover hourly workers or still drunk musicians with hand tools.
