Harley Benton Jazz bass - been having a good go on my new bass amazing what you can get for less than £100 these days American Ash body maple neck block inlays, Wilkinson pickups, D'Addario strings. Plays very well after a setup.

The grain looks better in real life.

We're almost twins looks proper nice. I'm really wanting to stick flat wounds on mine .

Was thinking about a set of flat wounds, a bass player I used to jam with years ago (my father in-laws pal) who had a great sound hated new strings but when he had to change them he used to tune new strings up to a higher pitch starting at G for a week or so to stretch the shit out of his strings before tuning up normally for the rest of the time they were on... Not sure if this is BS or not but he swore by it, might try that first.

Personally, I'm not a fan of flats, I find they are harder to slide your finger along (though are less abrasive) than rounds, and I prefer a sharp attack on my bass notes (generally)... and if not, dialing back tone will muffle it. Lots of people love them, though.

I use the tune up to stretch method with guitar, but, more often than not, I find bass strings don't really need it. Tune 'em up give them a good hard twist along their length for a few seconds and tune back up (if needed)... they should hold tune and be stable. Guitar strings I find stretch and stretch, but bass doesn't stretch much after install.

I think he did it to deaden the strings a bit once he he tuned back down to E, as he didn't like the ping of new strings.

Put a strip of foam on the bridge for that Carol Kaye sound, tamed the transient highs n lows... Lovin this thing, glad I didn't go for the more expensive Squier one, this one is all the bass I need.

That doesn't make much sense to me. It's dirt and skin that deaden the tone, not how taut the string has been.

Like I said he swore by it but it might be old guy BS folklore stuff.

Same bass as mine. After giving it a nice setup it plays and sounds awesomely.

tempted by these as they look so sweet but each time the price goes up (damn you Euro!)

Get one before it goes up again, well worth the money.
