For Les Paul's birthday on June 9th Gibson will sell Les Pauls for the 1952 retail price of $261

It was an April Fool's joke.
If brand new Les Pauls cost $251 in the US for one day and not the next, how many people would hang on to their $251 examples for more than 12 hours in an age when you can flip one to anywhere in the world on eBay for about 10x that? I'd literally be more impressed if they dropped the price of an LP Standard back down to 2 grand next year, as it's closer to 4 right now.

It says "Les Paul" on the headstock, it is not an illegal copy, it is new, and it costs $279:

Nice enough, but no copy (Epiphone, Tokai and Edwards included) plays anything like a Gibson Les Paul.
I'm not really sure why either, the recipie is fairly simple.
